top speed, fuel mileage

Thanks guys for the replies, I can see from the posts that my 2006 nytro seems to be slow I have seen 104 on speedo on perfect conditions. I think I will gear my sled up from 21/40 to 23/40 similar to vector gearing and try that. I am also not getting as good of gas mileage as I did on my 500ss. Maybe gearing it up might help my mileage as well. I an only getting avg 18 mpg on an canadian gallon, could avg over 20 on my ss in hardpack conditions.

Anybody have any clutching / gearing tips they want to share. Pm me if you want them kept secret. I have an 05 xc600 that is beating me, sure would be good to gain a little.

My sled turns about 8800rpm, should I try to acheive 8500?

Thanks

So if a "racer" chimes in with some incredible numbers, he shouldn't be shocked when asked "how much"

My sled was bone stock out of the crate reaching 119 and cosistantly hitting 116mph

On a very hard trail I can pull over 100 mph, but in any type of loose snow I only see maybe 85 mph tops.

The trails that we were riding on this week were all freshly groomed but the snow was a bit loose and it really sucked the speed out of my sled.

On hard trails, at 1/2 throttle my sled will easily break 80mph. On not so hard trails, I have to have the throttle pinned to the bar to break 80. It seems that any snow other than perfect, hard packed conditions causes an immediate 10-20 mph loss in speed on my sled, and about a 300-400 rpm loss.

I've never been on a sled with more than 100hp that couldn't hold at least 90mph in loose snow. For some reason this sled just doesn't like those conditions.

This morning it was 0 degrees when I rode to breakfast, the trails were freshly groomed, and were frozen solid. 1/2 throttle = 80mph, a little more than 1/2 throttle = 90mph. Got on a stretch of trail that had looser conditions and BAM, 85mph with the throttle pinned to the bar. Very annoying and very strange indeed.

I have seen 117 on my o6 vector. That was on really good going on railroad bed run. Normal trail riding 106-112. I have a few things done to it but not much. Cluthing is stock but iI am over reving right now so am thinking of adding some pin weight. I have put windage plates on my back clutch. I also have SLP pads on my track to make it coast better. I had this done before it ever seen the snow so I don't know how much it helped. Also with the pads I don't have the slider wear everyone is talking about. 2000 miles out of my first set. Dealer changed them on pre season ck. up. I dont think they needed to be changed. My buddy works part time at the same dealer and he ck. them before I took it in and said they were still good. I think dealers just change them because everyone says they use sliders and its a make to make some money. :yam:

A NEW sled tried and failed to leave me On a hard packed road last weekend. My sled passed 105 mph (the last time I looked down) and it kept pulling and reeling in the Brand x sled (I will leave it at that cause I don't want to be called a liar) I warned him this sled isn't like his dads 4 stroke LOL. He tried and failed again on good sweeping trail (This time I was ready) He was not happy when I was right beside him at the next stop. I have to assume it's the rider not the sled. He did seem to give me and the sled a little respect after that though.
I almost forgot last time I checked I got 19 mpg

:yam: :die :tg: :tg: :tg:

Gimme 3 guesse and I will be in the ball prk.
The only sled I have surprised w/ the Vector are 2 Vipers and,... ahem,...an Apex LTX, who did not "hook up".
I keep the 08 @ full transfer, you lose a little in the corners, but its a hoot to ride.

Snoway yours is an 08 right? They do seem to get faster with milage. Iam at 1400 miles as of today.
And like I said it was probably more slow rider than slow sled.
(BUT THE LOOK ON HIS FACE WAS GREAT)

Don't underestimate the power of RAGE lol

I fixed my sled - water in the airbox and a poorly sealed carb slide (my fault on the carb slide thing).

Now in loose snow I am seeing 100mph and in better conditions a solid 108 on the speedo. I am sure on a flat road with hard snow it would pull 115 or more on the speedo. And it is at least as fast on top end as an F6. I raced him twice and pulled 6-10 lengths on him by the time we hit 100, but after that I wasn't pulling away any longer but he wasn't gaining on me either.

06 rs rage,
yea, an 08 GT 121.(yamaha demo sled)
Can't say enough about the sled. Now have 3300 miles on it, 2000 are mine.
Plenty of corner to corner grunt.

I geared my sled up this week. 2006 nytro. I ran 260 miles this weekend, trails were very hard, just the type these sleds like. Sled seems to roll along much easier with the 23/40 gearing. I think I gained about 5 or 6 mph on topend, but sled does seem lazier in the midrange. The sled also seems better on gas as well got 24.9 mpg and 25.16 mpg on the two fill ups. The best I got before was about 20, granted the trails were harder this weekend.
For the type of running I do, big wide fast trails in Northern NB, I like this setup better. I was surprised, I thought the bigger gearing might drop my top RPM down, it still runs about 9000. I think I will try the heavier weight next in the tip.

last weekend on loose railbed got 97mph, sled was not totally set up for me. i just bought it used, 05 vector 485 miles for 3800 bucks. i was riding a 800 mxz previously and totaled it. was worried about the four stroke but all doubts are gone now this thing has plenty of bag, ill take the fuel mileage ( have not figured it yet ), no smell, no two stroke oil and give up the extra pop of the 800 any day.
