TORS problem

As far as I know, the only way on the RS models is at the Bars.....the RX models are down by the carbs. My friend has the 05 warrior and we were comparing ......

test gear..........damn. It makes sense that if the cable was binding in the turns, it would have an effect on the TORS. When I was testing the switch
with a meter, I moved the cable a little bit to the side, and the rpm's did jump..........hmmm. Put that together with the dudes that have had the switches replaced and are still having a problem, it points to the cable binding up, maybe.

That sucker can move, and pull the cable with it ???? If I could jump on the sled right now, I'd pull the cover off it and run it and see what happened.

I thought about that too, but when my sled was acting up I had the rubber cover rolled back over the air filter, not hooked to the cable so that ruled that out on my particular slead. When I picked it up from Nelson's after having the cable rerouted, I saw that they put that cover back in place over the carbs. I left it where they put it and put 100 miles on it.

Dosn't this seem like an awful lot o' chit to go through? When we were riding last weekend....we were discussing the tors thing and wondered.....does any other manufacturer have anything like this? Isn't the kill switch for a problems that would include a stuck open throttle?
I figured I would elimanate alot of headache by just bypassing....and I was right. Made it through almost 200 miles of riding without a single tors related issue....or any other issue, but it is a Yamaha so.....

Yes, it does, but the TORS system has been around for a long time without any real problems. The system activated only one time on my '98, but it happened to be twenty some degrees below zero that night and I forgot the isopropyl...my carbs really were freezing. Hopefully this is just a slight bug on a new design sled and will remain minor.

Does anyone know what the reading should be at the tps on the carbs? It seems that the thottle switch and the tps are not in jive with one another. I too have had alot of trouble with this tors thing in just 100 miles it hit at very crappy times. I also have a problem with getting the Idle spec to stay constant, very small movements on the idlescrew either puts the Idle way over the 1400 or just below it . Idle speed and/or shaft position must affect tors. I do have a 2" riser but I double cked cable pay and it is set at 3mm on the nose. This is a pain in the #*$&@! we need a proper fix asap.

Had the problem several times within the first 300 miles. I adjusted the throtle free play to spec, 2-3mm free play and also readjsuted the throttle postion on the bar to better fit my grip. Rode fine for a while but then had the problem occur again this last weekend within the first 10 miles of trip. When trouble shooting on the trail, notice my idle was close to 2k. Adjsuted it down to spec 1400-1500. Rode another 180 miles with no problem. Will check cable routing before trip this weekend. Hope I don't have ot bypass TORS but will as a last result. I never had any problems with my 98 SRX that has TORS, but I do notice that the SRX throttle is not as sloppy as the RS. Could be free play in up/down motion causing TORS switch not to close at throttle before tors at carbs activate (make before break connection). It looks like you can add a washer or two too tighten up throttle slop. I am going to try that to see how it works. Will let you know. We are supposed to get 10" of snow here in Northern Illinois tonight-thurs so hope to ride. Will post results after more miles.

I spoke with a person who has 2 Vectors, experienced the TORS problem.
His dealer contacted Yamaha and found that the info listed to set this is incorrect and they told the dealer what DOES need to be done to rectify the problem.
Anyone with a new RS sled may want to contact their dealer to have it checked out, and have them call Yamaha to get the right info!

Maybe someone could post the proper instructions here...
My wife has an RS Venture with about 7 miles on it. I haven't noticed any backfiring problems, but I did notice that the idle does "bounce around" alot. I figured that once the sled gets a few more miles on it, the idle would figure its self out.
Will somebody please post how to disable the TORS. If the sled begins acting up, I'd like to disable the TORS untill can get the probem fixed. Thanks.

Both the owner's manual and shop manual states to adjust for 2.0-3.0 mm (.08-.12 in) clearance at the lever. Let us know if anyone finds out differently.

We finally got enough snow to test ride my rage after my dealer readjusted the tps., and the tors. code 84 still activated for no reason. We tried the cable adjustment and the throttle positon, nothing is working.So i bypassed the tors. untill they figure it out. I will also call yamaha to document the problem. If anyone has anymore info please let us know. THANKS.
