Requesting feedback from sled heads only....

As sledders, members here generally tend to share similar interests in other regards like Tow Vehicles....so I'm asking you TY folks to share your :?: favourite sites :?: on this subject...

So far, most of the forums I've found haven't been nearly as interesting as this one... there's a lot of talk about RV's and such which doesn't really pertain to me and my RX-1 :? . I find it's a little boring wading through the sites :roll: .... not like rx1.info site 8) ... it's where i start/finish my on-line sessions all the time. :wink:

I'm not certain whether :idea: adding a 'tow vehicle' section to this forum :idea: would be any better... but it might be when you consider that alot of us have similar interests and that my sled and truck are such good friends...

I agree...like I would like to know if I could tow a Triton Aluminum Enclosed 3 place trailer with my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder?

Trailer Weighs 1650 # and comes with electric brakes. SUppose I put 3 RX1 Warriors in there. Would this be a tough pull or what?

Truck Towing Capacity is 5000 #. The numbers make perfect sense but sometimes the numbers and reality don't really match up.

RX Wonder - Not a direct answer to your question, but I'll share my experience.

Two years ago I bought a Triton 4 place enclosed and tried to pull it with a 5.3 Chevy, it pulled it ok, but the truck had to work HARD in the mountains (I start pulling in Denver 5200' and go up from there to 8000 - 9000 feet) I traded that truck off for a Duramax which pulls it much easier.

In my opinion I think that trailer is pushing the limits of that truck, especially if you have any head or side winds. I would encourage you to look at the 'lowboy' tritons that have a narrower profile, may be easier for you to pull??

I have been GMC for years. When they went from the 350 to the 5.3 I became unhappy. I usually pull just a two place enclosed trailer and feel the motor has to turn two many RPM's to make good power especialy when I pull my ranger boat. My buddy has a four place enclosed and pulls with a Ford deisel. It does a great job. I think that is my next truck. An other friend pulls a four place enclosed with a V10 Dodge and that also does well but likes gas.

Sketr2 before you jump to that ford check out the Duramax it's unbeatable with the Allison traney mine is awesome i pull a 5th wheel 12500 lbs no problem, 14700lb tow rating mine is a crew cab dually.

The Nissian will not pull that trailer very well at all, not enough HP and that truck is not made for it not matter what the tow rating is. Your pulling alot of trialer being its enclosed.

The Duramax is an unreal puller with the Allison auto, the ford is very good also. Stay away from the new Dodge with a diesal, they are worthless and eat tranmissions. Problem with the Chevy and Ford is the extra $6000+ for the motor and tranny combo. The 6.0 in a HD is a decent combination also for much less money and would probably meet your needs also.

Just my .02. Had the 6.0 and have Duramax currently.

I have a quad cab HEMI dodge. I bought in anticipation of getting a 3-place in-line but those plans fell through and I got a 12' enclosed 2-place. This truck is over-kill for this trailer and 2 rx-1's but I got hp's to spare and the mpg's shouldn't be as bad with the bigger trailer.

I did pull a 2-place with my jeep G.cherokee, that had an in-line 6cyl @ 195hp, it pulled quite well but I think this size trailer is it for that class of truck. I think the 3-place is too big for the pathfinder, especially in wind or hills; just my .02 based on my jeep performance.

Thanks for the info guys. I have a double enclosed ToyCarrier right now and it pulls with no problems. The thing is it JUST fits my shorty so if I want to go to anything with a longer track I will be selling this trailer. Maybe I will just look at a double enclosed triton...!

Some pathfinders came with a supercharged 255hp motor, which should do fine pulling. They have a good amount of weight to them which helps, the wheelbase is a little on the shorter side though. Brakes would be the main issue I'd think. If the 3 place is an inline trailer, no problems going, just stopping.

When we first got our 2 place covered triton, we had a jeep wrangler with a 4 banger. I'd never use 5th of course (should never tow in OD) but I could hit 85 in 4th! It never once got squirrely on me, and would chew through the snow like a champ. I suprised alot of people with that little jeep, hehe.

The hardest thing was getting mirror extenders long enough to stick past the edges of the trailer!hehe

The Superchared motors came in the Frontier's and I believe they were the 3.3 L V6. I have the 3.5L V6 and my Pathfinder and it has 240 HP (the 250HP is the standard tranny). It has plenty of power but I know what your saying about the stopping. Would the electric brakes on the trailer not help with this? I have never towed anything with electric brakes so I don't really know!

I have a 2001 Ram 2500 High output 6 speed Diesel pulls like a hurd of mules don't know about the new ones but if you can find an older one get it! I average a little over 20 mpg when I'm not pulling the trailer even hit 22.5 once handles a four place with ease. Milage drops to 15 when she's pulling a load but plenty of balls when you need it.

My 6 liter, AWD Chevy pulls pretty good and they even have a forum to learn how to make them run better.
