Well in about 1,000 miles I seem to have lost all but a handful of clips again. Hyfax wear is usually minimal. All missing clips were replaced towards the end of last year.

I blew the bearing on my center wheel on the rear axle this weekend. This seemed to have lead to accelerated hyfax wear. As I put a hole in both sides, which is not normal as I stated above hyfax wear is normally pretty nonexistent.

I drilled out both rivets on the rail caps and put a nut and bolt through them to tighten them up. I did notice they were loose again.

I need to figure out why I am losing clips so bad. I can't keep replacing them like this, it costs way too much money.

My dealer is looking at it this week but so far their best thought is to install the marginal wheels in the front of the rails.

I am concerned as we do not know for sure why it is happening so it is a guessing game at this point. Plus I never had good luck with the marginal snow kit wheels. Either I would toast the rubber on the wheels or the bracket would come loose and become deformed. They were not cheap to replace.

sounds like you are ridding on the ice or bad snow cond. I have a 06 apex gt and 06 vector gt both with 2000 miles wheels are fine hyfax about 1/2 way.You should ride in better snow cond.

My wheels are in great shape it is just the small marginal snow wheels I have had problems with when I had my RX-1.

I have rode many other sleds in the same conditions and did not lose clips. I will ride in whatever I can get (I love to ride and will take bad conditions over not riding any day), I just do not feel the clips should come off this easy.

Hyfax wear is very good. I normally have no problems with them except when I blew that rear wheel bearing.

4500 miles on my bro's rx warrior and track is like new..(except for one pulled threw stud) Lots of high speed runs!

2760 miles on my apex and my studs, track and clips look like new yet.. (ya you know im not easy on this sled)

I would say its the conditions.. I know there are alot of SNIRT or Sandy conditons up in the U.P right now..

Are you getting some ware on your end caps that go over the rails. If you are then you most likely have the same problem I did.Check your front shaft in your suspension. My plastic bushing were gone and the shaft had wore badly.Last year I reclipped my track and the clips continued to fly off. This fall I put in a new track and discovered the shaft replaced end caps, bushing and shaft. All better now.Mike

I have bolted the caps on the rails. Yet they still come loose.

My dealer put 40 new clips on last week. 200 miles later they are all gone again. I can not balme this on conditions. If this was the case the trail would have been loaded with clips this past weekend.

I am at a loss here, and the dealer is stumped as well. I checked the shaft before the season started and the bushings and shaft were in great shape.

Well i am having the same problem. What i have learned so far is my track is ballooning between the drive shaft and where the track meet's the slide rail's at high speed's and is actualy slaping or whiping against the rail's and is causing some vib's that can be felt by my feet. A friend was riding a side of me and noticed it. I talked with a contact at Yamaha about it and he talked to camaplast. They say clip loss is caused by high speed's on hard surfaces for long period's of time. The resonance and slap or whip against the slide rail's bend's the clip's, loosen's them up and then they come off. My track was on the loose side so i tightened it a bit tighter than spec and will try again. If it is still ballooning bad i may need a new track (must have a stretcher). Do not loosen up your track to help slide wear, Put on marginal snow wheel's. I replaced my first set of marginal snow wheel's at 3k. Hope this gives you somthing to go on. kviper

Anyone who is having this problem check the front of your hyfax for marks where the L-shaped part of the track clips could be hitting the very front of the hyfax due to the end caps on the rails being loose. We have seen clips coming off for numerous reasons but this seems to be the most common. What happens is when the end caps are loose the track comes around and is not properly guided onto the front of the hyfax and the L-shaped part of the clip contacts the hyfax causing them to be sheared off. You can first try bolting the end caps on to make them more sturdy or in cases like mdkuni's it may be time for new end caps as over time even when bolted on they still seem to get too worn out to be mounted rigid enough.

Good Info Kevin!!!

Don't feel bad..had the same thing happen to me last year. Had to change track due to overheat condition... I had 10 clips left on my ripsaw track.

Don't know why but it seems with the HiTech sleds we can't run high speed without breaking wheels, clips, Slidders, track. I don't remember having those problems with my previous sleds.

But I love my Apex, so I won't complain.
