Missing track clips....replace??

I have to second Blue Dave, since my Yamaha EX440 (1980-1983) I have not lost another track clip.

I know I have posted on this topic in the past...
I have an '06 Attak that lost a handful of clips everytime I rode. My wife's sled has similar track (camoplast 1" lug, clipped every third window) but on a Polaris. Sleds rode the same conditions. Polaris track clips are like new....

Before last season, I replaced all clips on the Attak and bolted the black rail caps solid. 2500 miles last winter, never lost one........

That must be it. I have always secured the rail cap before every season, and changed it when needed.

This is all great info and I really appreciate it.

I am going to the Big East snowmobile show in Oct. and I will get the tool to attach the clip there. My question is, if I just tell a salesperson that its a Ripsaw track on a 06 Attak, will they know what clips I need??

Also, I'll tighten up the rail caps. Do I have to remove the skid? I wouldn't think so.

7 clips in over 6000 miles, not bad. Also on second or third set of hyfax...not bad!

Ive done the track clip replacment on my old track at 4000 miles.. it will make it last..

But here is the thing.. you can get a new track for $300-350... so why not just get a new track.. and not take chances of the track itself breaking..

Because new clips are under $100, and you would have to stud the new track, assuming you have studs. Why fix what ain't broke.

Below is the rail tip mod I did. It's a piece of 1mm galv. steel bent to a C-channel then drilled, I put these on both sides of the cap to reinforce it. Then used a 10mm socket head cap and a nylock nut to fasten it down. Over 4000 miles and still tight and without losing a clip since.

LJ 452, at the end of last year I lost some clips and am going to be inspecting my rail caps since I will be up by my sled this weekend. I am trying to picture what you did to yours, can't really tell by looking at your picture. Can you break it down into lame man terms for me? I don't know what you mean by the steel is bent to a c channel and then drilled. Also I cannot picture the rest of what you describe, so again if you could re describe it for me, I would very much appreciate it. thanks

It's a piece of sheet metal that I broke into a C-Channel. I've got more left over if you want P.M. me with your adress and I can mail/ drop off. It's wasn't that hard to make so if anyone else is interested let me know. Basically cut it to fit, drill a hole through both sides and get a 10mm S.H.C.S. with a nyloc nut. As I said, so far so good.

As far as the track clips requiring replacement, wether that's "normal" or not, I've been riding in Mich. for just about forever (37 years) and can honestly say I've never replaced a track clip. Tracks yes, but never a clip. Track clip wear is not normal....

I agree - but only if you're in and out of the "Virgin Snow" as you ride. If you're on hard pack or low snow conditions, you can fry hi-fax and clips in a hurry, some riders don't have a clue and don't pay any attention and ride like they rented it...
