Greetings.
2009 Apex LTX with stock studded track now missing 18 track clips. Yes. conditions were marginal last season but all the track clips were still there . The only change made was the adding of the Dupont hyfax, which showed virtually no wear in 1200 miles (except right in front of the rear axle. Why not make the Vespel inserts longer?).
Anyone else with similar issues??

Check your rail tips they could be lose, and check your drivers.

I agree rail end caps come loose and will snag the clips and away they go, I lost 90% of my clips in about 100 miles. Loose end caps
A track clip tool and a pile of clips on hand is mandatory with this machine. I replace missing clips after every ride. Aside from the rail caps, check the front pivot arm mount where they go through the tunnel. I noticed my clips were all boogered up on the guides. The washer on the inside of the pivot arm mount runs dangerously close to the guides on the clips. I ground down the washer and shortened the guides and the problem has almost gone away. I think now Im just loosing clips from heat buildup due to a lack of snow.

Like others said, it's the loose rail caps that cause this. Drill out the rivets, pump the cavity of the cap full of some clear silicone and then reattach with bolts and not rivets. I lost nearly all of mine several years ago with only a couple thousand miles on the track and did this fix and never lost a clip after that (over 8000 miles later).

Thanks for all the tips. I checked my rail caps and they are super loose. Everything else looks OK.

Rail tip covers loose.
I did this fix years ago.
File the rail hole on the tip, so a stainless nylock nut slides in the rail opening. Replace screw with a stainless screw. Before siding tip on, fill it with goop.
You will never have to touch it again.

Did yamaha ever redesign the screw that holds the hyfax at the front? I made a fix for that years ago. The screw would seize up, and you couldn't get them out.
