When trimming / narrowing down a track how well does it hold up with the ends of the rods showing?

rods are fine, the track ends that you cut just frey a little.
you can just burn ends or just leave it.
it's a common problem for us phazer people to find a 14" wide track. most end up cutting down a 15" track because of price & many track options.
