Track Deflection

Hey Guys -

Looking fo some feedback on track deflection on a 2005 Rage.

The manual specs I have (25-30MM ~ 1.18in / spring scale of 22lbs).

I have been feeling some "track slap" in rough trail conditions. This is my main concern.

Correct me if I am wrong but, in the past the the yammy specs seemed a little tight thus not maximizing hyfax life. I realize that hyfax life has to do with snow conditions.

Well I had a dealer tell me my track was too tight so he loosened it up to spec. When I got it back I was ratcheting horribly and had to tighten it. Now I'm wondering if it's too tight also. When the #*$&@ end is off the ground should it deflect at all or only when you apply pressure (22lbs) to achieve the 1.18 to 1.28 in in the book. I had almost 2 inches of deflection below the slide rail without pulling on it when I got it back. Now it's tight to the rail and roughly 1.25 inches at 22 lbs but it seems tight.

I've always adjusted mine for 1" sag with no weight/pulling. That and SLP wear pads and my hyfax last the season (~2k mi). I change them every season when I have the skid out for routine maintenance. They would probably go longer.

Are you skipping the track at all with this 1" sag in powder at WOT??? I think I am going to keep loosing mine until I get it loose enough with no skipping drivers. Problem is my adjusting screws must be getting worn out as it is almost impossible to get proper alignment (left/right) and the proper tension on the track....

I don't generally ride in powder, mostly groomed trails. When I start to ratchet, I tighten the track 2 turns.

I thought my sled was rachetting but it only turned out to be the cheap plastic bobie wheels up front hitting my stud backers

Run the track loose IMO. I loosen mine until it ratchets in poor conditions, then tighten slightly. Faster that way and easier on the 'fax. Got 2000 miles out of my first set of slides and still had a lot of life in them when I changed them out.
