Track Replacement - Ice Ripper XT

I have a 2006 Apex GT with approx. 7000-7500 miles on it. Still running the original track (non-stud) and looking to replace for peace of mind based on others recomendations that I'm on borrowed time! I'm leaning towards the Ice Ripper XT for some added safety in icy conditions and corners.

I can find this online for approx. $500.00 and my dealer wants 3-3.5 hours of labor to perform the instlalation which comes to 210-245.00 approx.

Do I need to have them add additional tunnel protectors or anything?

The tunnel protectors are already installed on your sled, no need for anything extra.

I was quoted $200 Cdn labour for the track install but opted to do this myself. There are some excellent instructions here

I just purchased the Ice Ripper XT for about what you are indicating and my friend and I installed it in less than two hours.

I highly recommend this track as it does help a lot and it holds up VERY well! I have two friends with thousands of miles on them and they are holding up much better than I thought. You do not have to add anything in the tunnel as mentioned above, they are already in the tunnel.

I have 6,200 miles on my sled and I will say it was time for a track replacement, I thought it was in very good shape but after pulling it out and looking closely at it I 'm glad I did.

One other thing I have been wondering about is if I should replace the drive axle and cogs when doing a new track. I see some other posts of people breaking axles around my milage 7000-7500mi.

You were misinformed about it only coming with the 2.86" pitch. They make them in both pitches.

I haven't read of any inherent problems of axles snapping, maybe on a Doo, but not the Yammys. Regarding the drive cogs, I wouldn't replace them unless they are worn to the point where it would cause excessive skipping. Have a close look at these items when you have it all apart and make a judgement call if you have any concerns.

I just ordered a track from Rich Motorsports and was thinking of going with the XT for my Turbo Attak and Rich told me the 2.52 in the XT was not available. Do you have an XT in 2.52 pitch?

Camoplast is starting to build them in 2.52 pitch now for the 121 and I think even the 136". I put the single ply 137" XT sharp stud 2.86 pitch on my attak last year with the Ski-Doo Extros and love it. Put 900 miles on and its still like new. Just don't think it's going to be a good ice drag track because it's not. Its a track designed for icy corners and trails. Its fantastic for TRAIL RIDING! 5 MPH faster than the same sled equiped with 144 studs, no chance of tearouts and ruined heat exchangers. Weighs the same as stock track.

Yes i have an Attak(136), Mike i went with a full clipped predrilled 162 RipSaw for the extra cord structure with the stud's in the center belt only. After you and i talked about the XT i was going to give it a try till Rich said it did not come in a 2.52. I think studding the center belt only has a lot to do with the clip loss that a lot of guy's are having problem's with, The belt's don't stretch the same from all the cut cord's and causes major whip between the drive wheel's and where the track meets the snow and rail's. It shows up at higher speed's and just pounds the heck out of the track and loosens up the clip's. A friend noticed it on my GT and eventually i could not keep a clip in it. I put a predrilled in it and have not had a problem since.

Kviper this summer streatched my 121 gt to a 136. I installed the ice ripper xt its a single ply 137 inch 2.86 pitch. also changed the drivers of course to ski doo ext. extended my rails, looking foward to no studs, no wheels getting chewed up, no bent studs, hope fully a little faster, and the better ride of the 136. think its a smart choice, good enough for mike Knapp good enough 4 me. Turbine man, Would you by chance be the person i talked to at ProMotor Sports a year or two ago, You had a Turbo Vector i think and sold Insurance for a company we do business with. If it is you i have thought about giving you a call to ride but just never got around to it (winter is just to short) Any way i had the same thought's with the stud's,wheel's and tunnel damage etc. This will be my first year on a 136 as well, Just hope the Turbo will be a dependable trail sled for me. The power will be fun but i love to ride, That is my first priority. I bought my son a 07 Phazer FX with 450 mi so i could always jump on that. kviper

It doesn't say that it comes in a 2.52 pitch though and i already have the 2.52 extro driver's, I could change them but the predrilled is a good track and is warrantied for one year with stud's. Every thing i ordered is in, Don't know if he would send it all back any way. Do you have a 136 XT with 2.52 pitch? Thanks, kviper

Kviper cant belive you remember that still have the turbo vector, along with 07 rtx all custom, and my 07 gt 137 ice ripper. Put on 6000 miles last year best ever. Still have my place in Eagle River rode every week mostly middle of the week no traffice great trails. Dont ride the turbo much way to load cant get a muffler 4 it to big of turbo in the back no room. We will diffently get togather this winter. Jeff

FWIW, if he told me that same info (no such track) and coerced me into buying a different setup, I wouldn't be happy finding out that he was wrong. But if you're happy with how it turned out, then that's okay too.
