Basic question: Why do sled manufacturers spec the track tension so tight? Anyone with first-hand knowledge of their reasoning?
Most sleds spec around a 1-inch sag with XX weight pulling down on the center of the track. I always run at least twice that, and also shorten the limiter straps one hole. I've run hifax up to 2000 miles like this with no obvious problems - track still looks perfect. So why are the specs always telling us to run the track so tight that the hyfax are melting in marginal conditions?? Makes no sense to me.
