I've got track wear, gouges in the center area of my 2006 Apex. I'm doing my servicing right now and noticed some good rubbmarks and spots where the rubber has been ripped/worn. It seems the damage is coming from the shock mount at the top (Mono). It's starting to wear the shock area, the machine has 96 studs up the middle and 1000 miles.
Is there a fix or solution for this rubbing, someone told me there was a post awhile back where someone devised a solution to stop the wearing.
Any help of photo's would be great.

i found a solution to the problem. i posted it in another post today, see the post
do studs rub shock on attack posted by duppypog
We discussed it quite a bit last year and there were a lot of good ideas and naysayers.
personally i think this solution is the quickest and easiest and will hold up to years of abuse.

I am seeing the same thing on my Apex, the Shock is wearing along with the track, not sure why the thing is rubbing, seems that Yamaha doesn't allow very much clearance between these items. Any help would be appreciated!

Answer this:
Have any of you that have the marks on your track ever bottomed out your rear shock?

Only once that i was aware of i weigh in at about 140 dressed and have the shock set one back from max hardness. My theory is ice build up, after sitting out in the cold all night it freezes between the top of the shock and the track when it breaks loose the next morning it takes a little rubber with it. Just a theory i'm probably wrong LOL.

I am not sure if I believe it or not, but someone suggested to me once that if you bottom out the shock it can gouge the track. So I would like to hear if anyone here has the marks and knows for a fact the sled was never bottomed out.

Well i have about ten of the marks shown in the picture and i really don't think i've bottomed out that many times! What do you think about my ice theory will ice bond that tight to rubber or am i totally out in left field? I'm a computer guy bear with me here : )

I have many myself and if you think about it, if it was from bottoming out wouldn't it leave a longer mark as the track is spinning..... There goes that thought.
Ice build up, hmm well I guess that could be, except some of mine are a little deaper then just the top layer, but I have seen some serious ice build up in the tunnel, so it is defintily worth checking out before you ride.
I have no other ideas what so ever. I guess I will be ok with it as long as it never casues any real problems.

If this is happening on sleds that still have warranty, take them back to the dealer...maybe there is something that can be salvaged here that can build us better sleds in the future.

Unfortunately the dealer is the one who is blaming it on bottoming out, I will have to try and push for a better answer when I take it in for the handlebar update.
I wonder if track tension has anything to do with it. Convert, do you run your track to ratchet then go just tight enough to stop it?

I have my sled serviced by my dealer (we have an arrangement) so it set to the spec initially. I usually end up messing with it and keep it a little looser than that never had a ratcheting problem hear more of that with the long tracks.

I tried to get guys to check their tracks last winter. Yamaha seems to think there isn't a problem. I have chunks out of my track like the pic above, about 4-5 inches apart.
calls need to be made to yamaha, if enough people have the same problem there must be something done by Yamaha.
here is 6 pages on the issue:
