Is there still an issue with the spark plug removal, with the new trail tank design? I heard on the original trail tanks that if a plug fouled out, you had to remove the tank to fix this problem. Is this a issue still? I know Yamaha is better then the others with the plugs, but it always happens when you don't want it to. This sounds like a B%#ch on the trail at night. Thanks again Guys :rocks:

Over 8,000 miles on a Yamaha four stroke of some kind, not one fouled plug. All being EFI of course. I really wouldn't worry about it.

you will have to remove the tank to access the plugs with the TT. but this is just like a inline 4 cyl sport bike, when will you need to change plugs? especially with efi????

if you do, pull the seat, two nuts hold the tank, slide it back, and the whole back of the motor is there to change them alot easier than with the stock tank in place. ski

I know why..

Because for thousands of miles you can convinently transport an extra 2+ gallons of fuel where ever you may need it!
Then in a few years if you are still worried about the plugs you can then remove the tank change the plugs, re-install the tank and SELL the sled!

Delima solved!

Still, its kinda like painting yourself into a corner....WHY DO IT??????????

The question should be, Why not do it? It is a great mod to put on your sled for the extra range that everyone wants.
When you do change your plugs down the road, two more minutes on the tank is a breeze.

To each their own. Some guys don't really need the tank but for me, it is a must especially for longer days and between gas stops.

Mine showed up today. Fast shipping from http://www.ulmerracing.com/
Now waiting for the sled to show up.

NLVMAX , how long did it take for you to get your trail tank , because i order mine monday but i am wondering how long it will take.

I watched my buddy get towed to the dealership because his RX1 fouled the plugs. That was the very first season, and the sled had like 500 miles on it. Maybe it was self-inflicted, but anyway it still DID foul the plugs. Not a big deal if you are just a weekend rider, but i used to ride daily and that could have been a real issue for me.

The bigger tank is definately very very nice tho, so its all in personal preference.

I ordered it on Sept 30 and got it today the 8th.

deadman, you are comparing a first gen carbed 4 stroke, to a 3rd gen efi 4 stroke.

kinda like comparing a 03 rev with a carbed ho motor, and the new etech.

apples and oranges. ski

I nevr fouled a plug on any of my Yamaha 4 strokes. Changing the plugs on my Attak did suck, but if I had too I knew I could do it trail side. The Nytro with the Trail tank still seeesm like less work than changing plugs on an Apex..

What skidooboy is trying to say is, the 03 RX1 had carbs and a manual choke, which would be alot easier to foul plugs with, compared to a fuel injected version(FX Nytro, Apex). The Vectors are still carb and manual choke.

plugs

Why couldn't your friend change the plugs on his RX1 on the trail? On my 05 they were rite there on top.

As far as the trail tank goes, I guess it depends on where you ride - if the likelyhood of you running out of gas is higher than fouling a plug then the tank is probably worth it. In New York, it's rare I go 100 miles without seeing a gas pump.

I don't understand why people are making such a huge deal about this tank anyway. The Nytro will still go further on a full tank than many of older (and some current) 2 strokes.
