I have an older 4 place sled bed that has been sitting for a while. I drove 3 hours to my grandparents house to put new tires on it and bring it home. Just to find out that the brackets holding the axles to the frame have completly rotted out. Looks like it needs new axles and brackets. Definitely needs new brakes. The deck is good and no cracks in the aluminum frame.
My question is do you think its worth fixing? Im trying to find the paper work to see how old it is. I forgot what year it is. It has torsion style springs is this still common? My car trailer uses leaf spring and hauls way more weight and my two place uses leaf springs. Is there a reason for not using leafs?
My parents payed 800 bucks for it 8 years ago and worked for us until i went to college and stopped riding for a while.
Just looking for oppinions and maybe where to get good axles if you think its work it.

Can't see clearly, but the u-bolt may have corrosion right behind it, and the bottom of the rail is looking like it might be getting crispy. You have 800 in a 4 place and got 8 years, that's a pretty good deal. If you get the axles off and the bottom of the aluminum rail is white and chalky and pockmarked you'd need to replace the rail, if you can wire brush it with a STAINLESS brush (very important, do NOT use a normal steel brush, it will definitely later corrode) and it looks pretty good, not alot of pitting, then just bolt up new axles (put some rubber between the new axle mounts and the aluminum rail, aluminum on steel is super bad in salt). You can get new torsion axles from any local trailer place, you just need to take your old ones in or measure them up. They want to know the distance from mount to mount, and hub face to hub face, also you want 2500 or 3k axles, 22 degree down, with 5 bolt electric brakes. Tractor supply sometimes can help out if they fall into a standard size, or northern tool. KMT (Kristi) trailers out of NY here wholesales them, you call with the dimensions and he has them built and dropped right to your door, and its more than reasonable.

Yah sorry about the picture. Its hard to see but there use to be a peice of 2x2 1/4 thick steel inbetween the axles and trailer frame. I do now notice the corrosion on the frame i will have to take a closer look at the frame there. Juat crazy to see such bad rust when my 64 f100 that was parked 10 feet from this trailer for 25 years is less rusty.
I guess they dont make things like they use to haha!

Had the same problem with my two place. Axle completely rusted away. It actually rusted so bad the torsion spring stuck and it didn't have any give anymore and cracked the main frame rail all the way through. Good thing I can weld aluminium so after a couple welds and some extra bracing its back together with a new axle under it. My trailer is a 2000 I believe so I'm sure this was bound to happen sooner or later.
