The Trailtank web site says ''now uses oem quarter-turn (dzus) fasterers'' instead of those pesky thumb screws I assume , has anyone ordered or seen one ?

Wonder how they fit and if they can be retrofitted to the older trailtanks .

I lost a thumbscrew so I emailed them. They said they would send me out a kit. Should be here soon. I found a black metric bolt at Napa and had a black rubber washer in my trinket bin from inside a water faucet. It is a good temporary fix.

I've got a new TT on my 13, the fit is NOT great. I have to use a screwdriver to wedge the factory screws into the holes on the tank, then push in hard w/ the driver to get them to catch the threads. The hood corners point out a bit because of the angle the screws are at. Will try to get some pics up.

Had one on my 09 XTX , was a PITA when ever I had re/re as well , sold it with the sled and took a break for a couple of winters , now debating on getting one for my 2010 .

b1r2s , can you use the dzus fasteners on yours or did it come with thumb screws ?

easy

It uses the stock fasteners, but you cannot just turn them like thumb screws, you need to use a screwdriver, and LEAN into them to get the threads to catch (because of poor alignment)

I found that elongating the screw holes in the hood with a drill bit helped avoid having to angle the screws to fit the tank insert. You can also lightly heat the corners of the hood and bend them inwards, creating a better fit too. The advantage of having more gas greatly outweighs these small fitment issues.

The poor fit was my concern from past experience , I guess better wait till it gets sorted out .

Oh no doubt Grimm. I'm not telling anyone not to buy the tank, I'd buy another one if I got a new Nytro, but I'm just telling it how it is, fitment is poor... it's at least 1/8" off. I don't want to modify my stock panels, so I just avoid ever having to remove them, and carry a screw driver in my toolkit, in case I have to remove it trail side.

Just got some feedback from Seth at TT, he said the tanks are designed to expand with use, and the fasteners will line up.

those thumb screws on that tank suck #*$&@ lost all but 2 of them b/c the shitty white plastic holding them comes off drop and don't know it and there gone hate how it looks after but that 10gal is what it needs.

Which is probably why they've adapted the OEM fasteners , I agree the extra fuel is a must .

Bought one a month or two ago. Install was pretty smooth. The thumb screw fasteners take a bit of pulling to line up but they are not too bad. The only problem I have so far is the thumb screw that is by my right leg. That one loosens up with riding as my leg goes across it. I need to remember to check it every tank of gas or I will lose it, as I have lost one already. I know there are some alternative fasteners so I will need to try one of those for that area. Although I may replace all as it is quite time consuming to use the screws compared to the OEM fasteners.

go to sailrite.com #999100,999110,999160. I use these, so far so good. don't have to worry about loosening up
