After pulling my snowtrackers of recently and seeing how uneven the wear was, I decided to try shimming the ski by attaching a shim to the spindle. I had tried plastic in the past, but it would break and end up sinking into the rubber.
Suprisingly the snowtrackers steered very good right till the end and I only noticed a real change when pavement.
I know some have said on here that their is no need to shim with snowtrackers, but I have tried it both ways and I cant really notice the difference in the way it steers. I had the plastic shims in it last season and when I realised that they had recessed in to the rubber as much as they had, I decided to leave them out this year and the sled still steered exactly the same with or without.
So Im putting these shims in for no other reason than to see if I can extend the life of the carbide by trying to even the pressure along the runner. I also feel with this method has the least effect on the rubber and it should pretty much last as it would normally. I have riveted these for now, but I could just as easily have TIG welded them, if I was confident on the thickness of the material being correct.
