I am trying to get a Yamaha Phazer engine running for a school project but I have run into a few problems. The first problem being that I am not sure what year and model engine I have. The engine was sold to me as a 2007 but I'm not sure that is correct. Are there any defining features that can tell me what year the engine is? For instance I have discovered that the throttle body is not from a 2007 due to the throttle position sensor design. The serial number on the engine is 8GK-005802.

If u r taking the engine apart I know that there was different counter balancer shafts.
Other than that the engine didn't change very much over the years.

The problem I am currently having is with the throttle position sensor. The tps was updated to a different design and connector on the later models I have learned. The tps on my motor has a 6" wire lead that will not plug into the older 2007 style wire harness. Do you know if the newer style tps can work with the older style 2007 wire harness and computer if I don't use the oem connectors?

Yes, the 07's had a different plug. It should only be three wire regardless of year? Are the wire colours the same coming out of harness?

Both have three wires, the 07 wire harness has yellow, black with a blue line and a solid black wires while the 08+ tps has blue, black and yellow wires. I am unsure if the resistance is the same in both sensors, since Yamaha changed the connectors it leads me to believe the two different tps's are not compatible. Thank you for the help.
