Windy Valley snowmobile club does a great job...barely recognized in the state of Maine because its a small club but they groom as good as the best..IMO...Going through Grafton Notch in winter has unusually large snow drifts that have to be dealt with..its not an easy trail to maintain.I think the Bergstrom system (https://www.bergstromskegs.com/oui/tuner_skis.htm) maximizes what the Tuners can do. I thought the Tuner II was the latest one that fits our sled's and the Tuner IIIs were for a different ski saddle, but could be wrong. My Tuner IIs were a deal for the pair and flipping the rubber inserts and their shims and triple points / wear bars makes them rail on trails up to 6-8" of snow, slush, ice, anything. Off trail, they are really too narrow for a heavy front ended sled but I have totally gotten the hang of using the throttle to balance out diving into turns. I have heard Curves are really good off and decent on trail. The wider ski floats, would love to try them at some point. Funny my last ride of the season was through Grafton Notch from ME into NH in 12-18" of late season snow on my 1998 VMAX 700 XTC. That sled has USI skis with Duallies on them, great ride! You are right, enter NH and all ungroomed, ME was corduroy. Try the throttle, works for me... Bring on the snow.

I agree! What a cool trail up up up and across... really beautiful. I took my 1998 700XTC redhead for my last ride up there when we got that late 18" in March, they had groomed it but along the side was a perfect untouched 3-6' wide shoulder I ripped up for 15 miles... was awesome! Want to find some land no a lake North of there either in ME or NH, would be a sweet spot.Windy Valley snowmobile club does a great job...barely recognized in the state of Maine because its a small club but they groom as good as the best..IMO...Going through Grafton Notch in winter has unusually large snow drifts that have to be dealt with..its not an easy trail to maintain.

yes you got it...up up up and across, stop at the top and take in the beauty of the area.I agree! What a cool trail up up up and across... really beautiful. You should try Mount Will sometime, its near Sunday River ski resort, we'd go over to the Matterhorn restaurant via Mt Will...lol is fun and check your pants at the top, for that at the bottom too. It's straight up and down with a twist near the top and rocks on the side and if ungroomed...it's an ice sheet. Its fun and its dangerous, used to do it with a yamaha venture 500cc.
every now and then a cabin in Upton, Maine will go up for sale, its usually inexpensive and has early snow and late snow...it is out of the way for resources such as food shopping though..Lake Umbagog is near by. great sledding area without dare I say too many sledders ruining the trails...keep that a secrete...Joe

North of Sunday River is a new area for me, I have approached is from the other side and stopped short and from the Northeast and stopped short. It is a destination on it own for the snow micro-climate the ravine creates. There was 6-8" at the parking lot where late season rain went on top and 18-30" on the ridge... amazing! Up there was deep winter wonderland... will have to scope things out; would love to get some land and camp, then cabin up there... bring on the snow!yes you got it...up up up and across, stop at the top and take in the beauty of the area.

Seeing how this is a ski post, here is my pic dump from the Tuners and the Bergstroms for anyone to read, help in their decision making. As well discussed, I am super happy with this setup, trails are crazy good and once you get the hang of anti-floating and more like jet skiing, works ok there too if you ride <25% powder which we do here in Maine, New Hampshire. Forgot the Bergstrom instructions suggest taking weight off sled to prolong the life of the rubbers, the pic shows how much tip up you get with new ones, I presume the spring in the rubber is reduced over time with them on the ground like mine have now been for 3 years!

With the rubbers reversed and that much ski pressure on the back of the ski it is not good in the rough trails.
I tried that and in the rough going thru the corners the ski end up driving the handle bars.
Also the skiis worn out on the back half.
The Mountain Tec adjustable a arm set up is the best way to set up the nytro.

Several issues going on
Ski -I like the tuners on hard pack groom trail but they do wash out in deep +/-loose, OK on icy. I was disappointed in my only Curve experience -significant dart-will see this year as I have added Sno trackers to this sled with Curves.....will wait and see.
I have had good experience with Bergstrom Triples -best I have had on my delta box Yamahas until I tried sno trackers, now this is for trail riding only, rarely off trail and my goal is no hunt or dart and turn in hard pack, loose or icy corners -Bergstrom triples are right there as well.
I have ridden a lot with Viper Dave and he is off trail way more than I am. He is very tuned into details of handling so I defer to him on off trail handling.
I regards to Bergstrom I can see why some would feel he goes to far in his spoken and written criticism of his competitors, yet I have always felt it was just his confident opinion and never have found his reasoning to be ‘untrue’ just often Biased. In light of this I do not avoid his products, I just understand this is a person trying to be everything for his company(product designer, Engineering, marketing, sales and delivery)and compete against often bigger company's, he often offends some when he plays the role of marketing dept.. My 2 cents

If you spin the rubbers around without installing the shim (see instructions I posted), and without the deeper keel with the ski-savers and the correct carbide inside and only wear bars outside you will get funky steering and handling. I did the same. With everything, you barely have to touch the bars and she rails on the line you select and shoots out of the apex of the turn with great predictability. I was impressed the night and day difference but everyone finds their solution, what did you end up with for a combination? With the rubbers reversed and that much ski pressure on the back of the ski it is not good in the rough trails.

The MountainTech 43+2 solve alot of design issues, thanks MT! Everything we do with the stock geometry (flipping rubbers, shims, etc) is to mitigate Yamaha's bad design! I bet the short track is nimble and fun on trail!Mountain tec 43+2 a arms running stock yamaha single keel ski with woodys runners 6 in carbide.

Yes. I tested them for a season here in the UP before they went into production.
Its now a back up sled for me as I ride my sidewinder most of the time.

Wait for the Stryke? I think these maybe only available for Pro Cross chassis but maybe not? https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http...gq-CGpkDHPFyV0EP_YuJzMgtT21TI0OOYY27tLI-7DScI

Sounds promising! Also familiar "There is a measure of tune-ability in the new Stryke boards. Yamaha has simplified tweaking the fore/aft angle of the skis with a shim system under the ski saddle. The rubber saddle biscuit can be biased to put more pressure on the front of the ski, the back of the ski or to have the ski level and un-preloaded. The effect of having the ski push down harder at the front is heavier steering - something some pilots appreciate. Pre-loading the tail of the ski will produce lighter steering effort with a little more darting. We found the ski to be near perfect in its response when it was set up level with even fore and aft preload." Cant wait to hear if they can be adapted to our Nytro's : )Wait for the Stryke?
