As I said in other post, got the first good ride in on '15 ltx-se this weekend. Day 1 was pretty good, but the factory wear rods went bad pretty fast. After first day, the one side was missing half the carbide, and the steel runners were about 50% gone on both sides. I anticpated having to replace them, but I figured I would get a little more than a full day out of them! We ran some roads, but overall the snow conditions were pretty good, too. Day 2 involved trying to get a viper with a serious push thru the trails.

Anyway.. not sure if I should do new carbides, or just jump right to new skis.. what's the latest suggestions?

I ran bergstrom triple points on the apex and they were great. Thinking about running those on the inside, and a cheaper shorter carbide on the outside just so they don't wear out when running roads.

shaper bars work good for me

I was thinking of doing the same thing when I finally pick my sled up. As I used them on both my Apex's also. Do you know if he sells carbides that fit the tuners?

I'm running shapers with 4.5 inch carbides on both inner and outer. Steering was light and no push in corners.

My track is not studded. If it was I'd jump to 6.5 inch carbides.

I'm running 6in shapers inside and out. I've only ridden it on the lake but they seam to work well. No studs

I believe Bergstrom does sell carbides to fit the tuners per what I have seen on his website.. although he makes no doubts on his website that he thinks that ski sucks.. :)

lol true. But he more or less thinks all skis suck and is stuck on the shim thing. I put doo 5.7 pilots on my apex and liked them with Bergstrom 6" Triple Points in the center and the stock doo carbides on the outside. never needed shims. I am still debating on weather to go ahead and order carbides for the tuners or if I want to try the pilots. The problem is I hate to not have something other then the stock yamacrap carbides and have them fall apart and be stuck waiting on a shipment of something better. o_O. O-well at least its finally snowing here. Now if the dealer would hurry up and call telling me my sled is ready.......

I have 7.5" shapers inside and the stock junk outside. It needs more. I'm contemplating 4.5" or 6" shapers for the outers. Thinking quad 6" would be very nice setup.

Pilots on the Renegade with 6" shapers and stock Doo outside gives me much more predictable steering. Never really thought to try them on the Viper, but I guess I could.

Ordered the 8" Bergstrom triple points on the inside, and his hard weld bar for the outside. I'll let you know how it turns out.

SRXracer,
Are you studded? I am guessing yes if you are running 8"

Interesting. I have the RTX with the 129. But being that there is like only 2 lugs difference to the ground I am guessing that if I go Bergstrom I should also be looking at the 8". Also 225+. I finally pick my sled up tomorrow and hope to get a few miles on it down my small hard snow packed road. It should give me some idea as to how I like the skis. Then will come the task of installing my HID lights (*pulls hair out*). Thanks for the info.

Just an FYI - the trip we did to the UP was sort of last minute, and I assumed the factory carbides would suffice since I didn't have time to get replacements. I was wrong. First day, 150 miles of good trails, and while we did run some roads they were white and snow covered, the factory ones were about shot. One side already had dropped half the carbide the first day.
Don't wait to long to get some on order!

I bought Yamaha square with 6 pces carbides SMA-8JH31-04-04. It`s seems to be good with the square design. Is it this model that you name shaper ?
