My dealer says differently on this.
In talking (he does come on TY), the pipe being stainless steel builds up so much heat that it turns cherry red & needs to cool.
Mentioned guys that have both things blocked off actually boiling the gas from under the tank.
He took me out and showed me his kids 126" Nytro with Excell's seat/ pipe/ block off & it was iced over just as bad, actually a big brick was sitting on the track when I looked inside it.
Mentioned best thing to do when done riding was to put it in my garage and fire up the heater for a bit to melt it out & pick up/ drop rear end a couple times to loosen things before riding again (which I've always done anyways).
I'm new to the Nytro but like the idea to carry the nylon hammer and chunk it off some.
To each their own.

My tunnel is open from the collector back starting at the front of the can. I'm pretty sure if I was "boiling" gas I'd smell it when I stop from the vent line.

your dealer says...................
I've been running my version for several years and with over 7000 miles there has been no evidence of what "your dealer says". I wouldn't actually call mine a block off plate, it's more of a heat shield that keeps snow off of the muffler but allows plenty of air flow around the exhaust to prevent heating issues. Don't believe everything dealers tell you.

Not to start a pizzing match but I've known my dealer for over 25 years, he doesn't steer me wrong at all & has some experience under his belt in the exhaust dept.
Value his opinion too.
Like I said in the previous post, to each their own....

To chime in here.... the hottest part of that pipe will be where it comes out of the engine. The block off plates by Grizz and Conoehead leave the whole front part of the exhaust exposed. It would get tons of snow thrown on it which would keep their temps down. If the whole pipe was blocked off I would agree, heat may start to build but in this case it is open at each end allowing plenty of air movement.
Also, these engines aren't too dissimilar from motorcycle engines and they don't have issues with heat.
Food for thought.
