I ran stms on my tcats and did it because we were running 1.86 in 1 inch tracks and there were no hits.
The stock ones work fine also but I prefer full length protectors when running long studs
I agree with the aluminum on aluminum and that’s what my Polaris has now. Full length aluminum on aluminum cooler.
I can’t say I had cooling issues on the Tcat though either so the stms are an option

Aluminum on aluminum makes more sense.

Been running without protectors for 5 years now. No stud hits in tunnel. 1.625" Lake Racers on 1.25" Rip2 yields about 9/16" over lug height which IMO is enough for most trail riding. This would be equivalent to 1.575" Megabite on same track. If track hits with these setups, track is too loose!

Don't follow PEFI instructions on track tension if you are running studs. Their track tension recommendation is too loose.

From TD 998 performance guide:

- Make sure you have a tight track (must not hang at all when lifted off ground, must be hard to push off the front bogey wheel). It is highly preferable to have a 4 wheel kit upgrade to maintain reliable track tension especially when running high power and or fast speed. Running a loose track will rob lots of top speed (as track balloons from centrifugal forces). Also loose track can cause ratchening of track drivers which will damage them and or the track. Radar running require a VERY tight track as high speed cause expansion.

Good to know, have you ever had a good tail hit or bottom out Jon? Running without the rear exchanger protectors seems pretty risky.

I run the full length stm tunnel protectors that I shortened on the forward end.
No heat issues ever.
Their is a thread on hear about it.

None. Guess I've been really lucky or I just don't ride it or jump it enough. I know I've bottomed out rear skid multiple times. No signs of studs hitting anything. IDK. Works for me.
