Just got finished with the motor and turbo swap on my 06 apex. She started right up! Every thing sounded good and was looking good until she started to blow smoke out the side dumped turbo. After looking into the situation found that there was oil coming out of the turbo. I know that the motor I put into the sled was not doing this. Is this normal or could a seal be out? It is a front mount garrett, boondocker setup.

Check your return from turbo. It could be blocked or not returning fast enough. What size is your restrictor on the turbo? Lots of variables on why this happens but way more common than you think. Mine would stop burning oil when it got warm. Good luck. Shad

How do you know what size it is? Will it say or do ou have to measure it? I hope that is the problem but this set up worked for the guy I bought it from. If it is not the case can I rebuild the seals?

I also know first hand about smoking garrett turbos, same as Shad. Typically there is a 30thou orfice installed in the supply line. Might want to make sure thats installed. ATPturbos has the fitting if you dont have one. Buddy/dealer has been running boondocker turbos for couple yrs, his personal sled always smoked @ start up. Not sure if his a orifice, he wasnt worried about it. The boondocker drain line is pretty short, as turbo is mounted only inches away from the mag housing were it drains to. I used to a smoking turbo, but increased my drain line to 5/8. I have a midmount setup thou.
