Has anyone had an issue with their turbo being stuck or unable to spool due to what seems like something is sticking or thick oil.
I started the machine a few times during the summer but never really paid much attention the sound the turbo makes when the machine is shut down.
You know...... when you turn off the ignition you can still hear the turbo spinning for a few seconds as it free wheels.
I noticed mine wasn't doing that so I suspected something was up.
I took off the seat to find the turbo stuck and not spinning at all.
I freed up the turbo on the filter side but still feel resistance. Nothing that feels like a bad bearing, but more like really thick oil. I pulled off the oil supply tube to find the oil was free flowing but not the cleanest I've ever seen.
I'm in the process of trying to change the oil, but "what a process" now that all the turbo related stuff is in the way.
I'm hoping it's just bad oil in the turbo and will be flushed out with a fresh oil change.
Any input would be great.

Hey otis, sounds like you smoked the bearings on those 1 mile wide open runs, back to back to back. Change the oil and start the motor with the charge tube off to see how she is spinning and then listen after you shut down. Good luck. See ya in a couple of months.

LOL...... on the 1 mile WFO runs. Never happened.
Ran flippin great when she was put away.
Something happened during storage.
Can't wait until we can get together again.
SRX Magic and I are working on a date for a big "blow out" here in OTIS.
We're trying to figure the best date to hold drags on OTIS that won't conflIct with other things happening in the snowmobile world. We're looking for a good turnout of serious HP machines.
Stay in touch.

Do you let the turbo cool down before turning the sled off after hard runs? Sounds like you coked the oil.

TUCO............. Good point.
I normally do like her cool down, but can't say for sure on the last run.
Too long ago, and knowing the end of the season is there... who knows what the "F" I did!!
May have to send her back to Bender if the new oil doesn't free her up.
No mice.... new heated and sealed garage. If I saw a mouse in there I'd nuke the place.!!!
Crap!!

It's been known to happen.........nothing an cartridge overhaul won't fix.
Some guys have paid between 300-500-1000 cdn. Any good turbo shop can help you out. But get an estimate.

You can't just shut the engine off after a run. You will need to allow the turbo to spool down or you will get the bearings/bushings everytime! Let the engine idle for 30 seconds or so before shutting the engine off. This allows the oil to still lubricate the turbo center section and thustly the bearings/bushings for the impellar. If you hear that whining noise after shutting down, you are not allowing the impellar to slow prior to shuting engine down.

Like Speed said, could have a mice condo in there!

Hope this helps Otis!

Good luck,

Had a Cat about five years ago and those little ba&tard$ crawled up the exhaust and built a ten story hotel in there , had to replace the muffler, couldn't get it all out

My 03 (Bender 2) needed new bearings after one season. You could hear the impellor rubbing after you shut down the motor. No one really knew why

Well i hope mine is ok?? It sure turns easy. But after you turn the sled off you can hear the turbo spin and spin and spin. If you put your head near the rear of the sled in side. Dont think you can realy hear it when the sled is out side. Sound normal?

TURBO PROBLEM

IF THE SLED WAS OKAY WHEN YOU PUT IT AWAY, IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED DURING LAYUP, IT COULD BE THAT THE WASTEGATE MAYBE STICKING FROM RUST AND CONDENSATION, CHECK IT OUT IF YOU DON'T FIND ANY THING ELSE JUST A THOUGHT (TURTLE)
