Turbo or Nitrous or leave it alone?

sell it and put the money toward a Nytro.

the weight diference should be insignificant and the final cost should be comperable too.

then when you get the urge to tinker you have more to start with

This is what I would do as well. I have virtually no experience with really souping up a sled with a turbo, but I would figure if you just want more power you will get a more reliable package with the nitro. Although if you are the kind of guy who loves to tear things a part and put them back together while knowing you made a huge difference yourself. A turbo maybe more a fun project for you.

The Nytro is 50 pounds heavier than a Phazer, turbo or not. MCX Phazer has 145 ponies at any altitude, Nytro only has 130- AT SEA LEVEL. At 5000 feet, it only has 110!

Those are big differences.

Monker - If he does install the nitrous, realistically how long does a bottle last? I'm looking at a 1.7 bottle size from Holtzman.

Thank you,

T

What kind of costs are even required with Nitrous? If you are only looking for a shot now and then it might be the way to go!

I'm thinking for a quik zip the nos is the cheep answer. If I had the moola I'd prefer the turbo. Has anyone put the bottle on the tunnel behind the exhaust to keep it warmer? or would the nos get cold going through the longer line to the intake and mess up the mixing ratios?Just thinking..

That's tough to answer. Playing around close to the truck I've got through 2 in a day. I've also used less than 1 in a week and a half. It will all depend on your riding and what' you're doing.

per yamaha, the wieghts are lots closer, stock and turbos add weight no matter what. even the lightning pro for the RX-1 added weight.

as far as power, it depends on riding style. if you want an imediate snap then the nytro wins, if you want track speed while blasting up a mountain side, then its turbo all the way.

maintaining turbo power at altitude is also dependant on the type of boost controler

don't forget its also new vs. used and posibly race fuel vs. low octain pump regular.

if the Nytro would have been released first, there wouldn't be half as many turbo kits for the phazer and anyone who is honest knows its because putting a turbo on a phazer just makes it the nytro that that segment of buyers realy wanted in the begining

While it's true there is a segment of buyers that really wanted the Nytro in the first place, there are Phazer buyers who really like the Phazer for attributes the Nytro just doesn't deliver. Riding position and the ability to install a big windshield and mirrors are an example for those of us who could be classed as the "cruiser" segment. As cruisers, we want a sled that will protect us from the elements and handle everything we come across in a long distance ride. The Phazer does a great job on tight and twisties as well as whooped out trails but lack of top end on wide open trails and lakes leaves one wishing for more. In this particular case, a turbo might be the way to go.

Yeah, I know I'm probably a minority in this section. An Apex rider asked me last season why I was riding a sled intended for twenty year olds. I guess it's because I can and I really, really like how it rides.
:yam:

I demo'd a nytro last year and the same day I bought another phazer with the intent to turbo it. After 700 miles on our MCX Phazer mountain, I did not like the feel of the Nytro. That being said, if I wouldn't be happy with 180-200 hp, then I would go for the Nytro. The narrow seat and chassis make this sled a hoot to toss around. Lag is there, but I may add NOS :tg:

Yeah, a turbo Phazer is going to be lighter, more nimble, and more powerful than a Nytro, every day of the winter. And MCX kits have the electronics for altitude compensation.
