Need some help here guys. I am looking to you guy as you know more then me on this. Currently Totallyamaha is doing a build sled and I want to know what you like better.... no arguing, just vote state the facts and move on.
I was leaning toward a Super Charger but may have to take another route!!! or just leave it and go more HP with porting, cams and so on.

I voted Turbo.
- Porting and cams cost a lot without giving you the HP not the best bang for your bucks so to speak.
- SC - don't have any first hand knowledge.
- Turbo, a well tuned turbo system has the power and the response as good as anything out there. Quite a few vendors to choose from. Adjusting boost is easy with a boostcontroller.
I run a MCXpress rear mount system at 16 lbs of boost. Had to install some go fast stuff to make it perform at it's best, Vortech Race Bypass, AFR, MCB, plumbing and piping. I've had very few problems with the turbo system as far as I can remember, blew the head gaskets once, my own fault. I would say a turbo system can absolutely be as dependable as the anything. My sled have never left me stranded

- None, looking now!
I run a MPI supercharger and like it very well. Very dependable. Can use stock exhaust, stock gas tank and no heat issues at all. Not sure what really has been going on with the header thing and Turbos lately, but that the thought of a cracked header 70 miles from any town didn't appeal to me. I have to change boost by changing pulleys rather than a flick of a switch, however. I really think that 10lbs on a supercharged sled is really more than enough for any trail sled. I was at only 5lbs last season and the sled was pretty fast then.
I get around 12mpg, with moderation and the sled can look stock with the exception of the guages.
I voted for a supercharger.....

SC is sooo much simplier to install and remove since bosted sleds are worth almost less then a good stock one being able to remove it is a bonus. Less power though. I voted SC only cause of the fun factor in the WI trail system even at 5 psi its at a 1lb of boost at clutch engagement!
Mark me down for a turbo vote, can't beat boost, and being able to crank it up when you want more. Which WILL happen.

Supercharger versus Turbocharger
My vote is for a supercharger because:
(1.) No exhaust heat issues.
(2.) Stock exhaust to keep the noise in check.
(3.) No cracked header issues.
(4.) No need to pull motor to get header installed.
(5.) No need to use smaller gas tank like mid-mount turbo.
(6.) No turbo lag.
(7.) Ease of install.
(8.) Sleeper look.

x2 and only because you say a trail machine, nothing wrong with a turbo on the trails except its a handful to ride cause it makes so much damn power, and the exhaust is louder if that is a prob in your area.

Turbo, hands down smoother and more power. Also better fuel mileage to boot. Best turbo to date on the trail, CPR front mount.

Super Charger for the trail. I run an MPI at 10 lbs, 5 to 7 lbs is a blast on the trails. Have had some fuel delivery issues in the past at 10 lbs, which i seem to have cured. Very reliable set up.
