I am getting ready to turbo charge my 2009 nytro xtx. I live in South Eastern Wisconsin. I spoke to my local dealer this afternoon to inquire about cost with installation. I was told that the Push turbo from yamaha is for mountain applications only above 6000 feet. Why can't this be used in lower elevations? Does anyone know of a shop in Wisconsin that has done turbos on Nytros? Any info is greatly appriciated. Thanks in advance

We are in the process of installing 2 MCX 180 kits on Nytros right now. The kit is very easy to install, may want to look at doing it yourself?

I just looked at Push's website. Push broke away from Yamaha as they decided to go with MPI for both the supercharger and turbo systems. On there site they have a low altitude kit for the Nytro. It looked like a set of guages and a clutch kit, nothing I wouldn't do anyway. They claim 198hp and have it priced at $3295. Read the website and you will be a believer of this system. Everthing he has to say is very logical. From what I understand, hand tools, a solid day, an average garage jockey and wa-la 200hp

We ride at sea level in AK. Last trip out was unloading at 1100 feet. tomorrow will be somewhere in the 2-3k feet range.
You just have too keep your boost levels safe with your quality of fuel. I am running 6-12 lbs depending on how much I want to spend on fuel.
Boost is all relative to atmospheric pressure. As you gain altitude your atmospheric pressure goes down and you can run more boost to compensate for it. My 8 lbs here would be 12 at 10k feet roughly.

So are you keeping an eye on the gauge or is there a level control that won't let you over boost it. Is there a blow off valve also?
Gages and boost controllers are zeroed at whatever altitude you are at so if you have a pump gas set up at 8lbs at 5k feet and you come down to sea level you will still read the same but now your 8 lbs at 5k is going to be 10lbs as far as the engine is concerned. So 6lbs at sea level is normally a safe boost level for pump gas stock compression. Basically if you run a boost controller you start at 6lbs at sea level you can increase it 2 lbs per 5k feet to keep the same power.
But if your getting a kit made for sea level then they are the ones standing behind the kit and hopefully they have done the testing required to protect your engine. If you look at Ulmer's High elevation kit it talks about what I am saying.
I am running 104 octane to run at 10lbs boost at 1k feet. As a side note, a 121 is a animal at 10lbs in the powder
