I was informed there is only 3 rooms left at Comfort Inn in Muni for the Give Away Ride the 1st week in Feb. They are being held for Totallyamaha, so if you are on the fence you better book soon.

I am considering coming to this ride, but as a TY ride virgin, can you crafty veterans tell us rookies what to expect out of the weekend? Are there organized TY rides and gatherings, or is it kind of a free-for-all? Is it going to be crazy busy on the trails? Is the snow any good around there right now? Is there stuff to do in the evenings, or does everyone call it a night pretty early? Since the ComfortInn is booked, would the Super 8 be a good choice? I would be coming from central MN and would hate to be disappointed!

I have not personally stayed at the Super 8, (maybe some that has can comment) but it is very close to the comfort inn, about a block or two. Alger Falls has the outside entrance to each room, fridge and micro in each room and heated shop. (least it did when I was there two years ago) and is about 2 blocks away also.
Mr. Sled (TY Himself) does organize a ride for each day, but it is totally up to you if you want to do it or ride elsewhere. With as many people coming to this ride, there will more likely be a number of different rides and style of riding to choose from.
As for crowded trails, its not going to be any different then any other weekend on the trails.
As for going dead after the ride... There may be a few that turn in early bit IT DON"T HAPPEN LOL. There is a bar right there in the hotel and many gather there to share stories and relax.
The snow should be good as it gets alot of Lake affect in that area. You can check fishweb for MI trail reports.
As for family, yes lots of wives and a number of children come on the ride.
....Hope this helps.

I live 15 mi. south of the hotel.......snow is not great here right now but it is better in and around town (Munising)..............can't comment on the trails......haven't been able to ride yet this year but should be O.K. by the ride.
Usually there is a group that does a trail ride to some location and back (or a large loop if the trails are O.K.) and another one of two smaller groups that go "exploring"..........they try to organize every morning at the hotel.
Hope this helps.

To elaborate on MrSleds post, yes, it can be a free-for-all at times, but in recent years, we've been working to organize things when there are just too many people to ride in one big pack. Normally, a few people who know the area volunteer to "lead" the rides for the day, and depending on the type of riding you like to do, you'd meet up with them in the hotel lobby at 8am and each group will head out for the day from there. There can be as many as 6-8 different groups, with numbers ranging from 2-3 to 15-20. There may even be a sign up board in the lobby to add your name to which ever group you'd like to go with, which somebody who is a Muni regular usually organizes the board.
For those who are new, remember to read the ride rules on the forum, and there's no drinking during the day. If you'd like, you can make up for that after the ride is over for the day, as many of us do...
It's a great time, definitely worth the trip from wherever you're travelling from, and we don't care what you ride, many of us own sleds of different brands too, but it's more for the people and comraderie of the group!
If you've never been to the UP before, and have questions, feel free to post up or pm myself or MrSled. We'll help any way possible!
