Winnipeg Police busted a major snowmobile theft ring in the past couple of days. To date 19 sleds have been recovered and the investigation is still ongoing. Five males arrested including the two last week. About $120,000 in recovered sleds to date and it looks like more to come. SRXTWINS sleds have been recovered and appear to be in good shape.
Hopefully our sleds will now be a little safer in Beausejour for the TY ride. Keep in mine everyone of the sleds stolen were driven off. A good piece of cable with locks would be in order. Wilson and I tie our sleds together with a piece of cable and a bicycle lock. The cable cannot be cut unless they carried some kind of grinder.
See you all next week.

Good news for everyone and I hope Brians sleds are as good as they were in his garage. How did they catch them?
Started by uniformed officers catching a couple of guys stealing a snowmobile. Investigation taken over by Detectives. Interrogations and lots of work and the results have been good.

Snowmobiling in Canada
I have read so many articles describing the terrible experience snowmobiles have had while snowmobiling in Canada. This year we opted to go to Wyoming rather than chance the loss of our sleds, trailers, and vehicles. While in Wyoming, Wisconsin, the upper and lower UP we spoke with numerous sledders who have has similar problems. If anything, there has been a cover-up to avoid the publicity of what has become an epidemic. Several people said after their theft the response by police in Quebec was non-existent and the attitude towards Americans was rude, especially in the areas where French was most prevalently spoken. I have seen pictures and it sure looks like some beautiful country, but I kind of like knowing that my property will be respected where I choose to ride.

Sodes....I think you should give Manitoba a try....
We went for a ride in Ontario, some of it just miles from Quebec. Rude isn't the word for those people.
All of us stopped at a resteraunt to eat. You would have though we had the plauge after one of us said something and everyone knew we weren't from around there.
We probably left a few thousand dollars for the local ecomony there. Only nice people were the owners of where we stayed and these 2 waitresses I started talking to.
None of our stuff got stolen though. And where we were.. doubt it would have.
Was kinda funny though.. we went to a strip club.. each and every single stripper that came up to me said she was from Quebec. Who the hell cares.. just show me your puppies and get on with it.

Last year my group went to the Manitoba TY ride, we were all treated GREAT, even the Ski-Do guys were very impressed. As far as being worried about your sled getting stolen, I had a sled stollen from Ranch Roudalf near Traverse City a few years ago, so it can happen anywhere there is a theif.

I was on that ride with my spare sled (yellow) cause I was having trouble with may blue turbo'd sled and the TY guys gave me a rough time , looks like the turbo might not be there this year again due to problems, ummmm, you think if I get that yellow thing painted Yamaha blue they might not notice!!!! 8)
You're right about the thefts, do what you have to do to deter them, I believe in out of sight out of mind. Also if you lock yours and there's other sleds in the lot unlocked, the theifs will go for those first, so just take precautions and you should be ok.
So true, and it also depends on where you go in Quebec.Mikey said:Its not just cause you are americans that get treated like crap its cause you dont speak french even english speaking canadians get treated like the plague in quebec.

This is my 7th winter snowmobiling in Quebec, I can honestly say that I have never been treated half as bad there as I would have been in Boston or New York City!! AND it is nice to hear that SOMEONE in Canada actually gives a rats A$$ about our stuff being stolen so frequently!
