the clutch kit was designed for a stock phazer so yes
where can one find directions on how to install the ulmer clutch kit??? i just got mine in the mail...looks pretty easy but i have never pulled a clutch apart before and dont want to screw it up....

Which kit did you get?One is just the Primary spring and wieghts other is that and secondary spring.
If you have secondary spring

With just the primary and wieghts its just remove the cover plate and then each wieght.Replace with Ulmer wieghts and spring.

Re: Ulmer clutch kit
I talked to Allen about this kit. The Heel Clicker kit is NOT the correct kit for the 07-09 Phazer. The Heel Clicker kit consists of a roller secondary, new helix, new secondary spring and a new primary spring. This kit is for the external style secondary. The new Phazer uses the old internal style, much like what was used on the earlier two-stroke air cooled Phazers.
Allen did say that the external style secondary clutch used by Yamaha for 1995-96 Vmax 500-500 sleds will fit the shaft on the new Phazers. This info for those wishing to move up to the "more up to date" secondary clutch system.
Having a ton of experience with the internal style secondary used on the early Phazers, I have a ton of springs and helix angles and compounds. I think that I may have a roller style secondary somewhere in my box of old Phazer parts. Can't remember who made it. More info to follow.

Sounds good. I have the Ulmer kit (weights-spring) I just added a 136 track and E-Mailed Allen and he told me to change the stock setting from 1-A to 2-A.More info on other set-ups would be great. Let us know what you find out.
zook, because i know ZERO about clutching, why would you change the setting from 1-a to 2-a?? and how would that be done?? Thx

I wonder if a roller setup is right move on the 4st's?Isnt the biggest benefit the quick backshifting? So you really want that on a Phazer?Thinking the engine braking would be increased with a roller.

Look at both secondary set ups
stock yamaha = an alumunim cam(helix) riding on a plastic puck. Lots of friction!
A good quality roller secondary has a steel rollers riding on a steel helix....way more effecient! Way less friction. Try pushing a flat object up & down a steep ramp. Now put wheels on it & see how much easier it goes up & down.
