Just noticed in the accessories catalog that the MPI kit states now that the kit may not be installed on 2016 or later. I know there was a batch of bad rods but this means from here on out they won't sell the kit that allows you to keep a warranty? I have been back and forth between a SW or Viper for next season. I was hoping to find a Red/Black Viper LTX-SE as a leftover possibly and turboing it rather than dropping the capital on a SW. This is going to be tough.

Not happy about it but it makes sense.

Even if they fixed the rod issue (not saying they did) it doesn't make much sense to compete with your own market share.

That red and black viper sure is sharp. Buy a leftover with black tunnel. Early 16 with old motor or 15. Heck is even new 14's around. Huge savings then sell the plastic and buy the 17 black and red plastic and then put Turbo on of your choice. MPI if warranty wanted or I would go with a PCV based or even EVO Turbo and deal with warranty or lack of if a issue comes up. Plastic with graphics on already is cheap new. You would save a ton of $.

How do you tell if you have a motor with bad rods, I have a 2016 LTX LE spring order edition and am thinking of going the turbo 190 route.

Take a pic of your valvecover from the side and post it. Looking for the black rubber Cam plugs or lack of. That tells the tale.

Its a little more complicated perhaps than that. If you have the rubber plugs you have the 2015 motor. If not there is a chance you have bad rods but this is not a guarantee that you do. Only way to tell is to test with a file.

Yes but its also a very good possibility that he does have the 15 motor in his 16. So no file needed in that case. Have to start somewhere.

Any pics of what good looks like and what one with bad rods look like?

Well followed Cannondale's link and got the late build engine. May have to turbo the wife's 2015 LTX DX. Could switch over the plastics, shocks, dampers and speedo in order to pull off a fast one.

Just hang tight and see. I think one of two things will happen.
1- You are informed you have good rods in your late build
2-Yamaha replaces all the rods in 16 late build engines or at least inspects them

What I can't even guess is when. It's already way past due to you guys.

Not sure why anyone would want to Turbo a 17 viper over buying a sidewinder. You cant build it for the price that the sidewinder costs. By the time you buy a turbo kit, rods, pistons, clutching, header (stock ones crack with a turbo). And after all that you still dont have knock protection or boost correction or any safety features.

I agree but some of us will never recoup even half of what we paid for Viper so financially makes sense. 17 definitely not. Earlier might make sense $ wise.
