"Well snowmobilers it happened, during the Snowmobile Advisory Workgroup meeting yesterday in Sault Ste Marie, we were informed that a section of Trail #2 in the western UP will be closed next year due to excessively loud snowmobiles traveling on the trail. This person has allowed snowmobiles through his private property for 20 years, this section of trail is close to his residence. His words to the DNR were “you can continue through March 31, but were tired of the noise” he noted that there were very few loud sleds in the past but this year has been constant at all hours and he is done. So stay tuned, the Grant Sponsor and the DNR are not sure that a reroute will be possible due to the rough terrain. Trail #2 is the main East/West corridor in the western UP."

Really sucks, a few bad apples screw it up for everybody. I've had to bitch slap a couple of friends over the years for going off trail where they are not supposed to go. Some don't read signs or just don't care, some just don't think the rules apply to them. This one might not be fixable based on availability of a go around in this terrain.

If I read this right it's not about off trail, it's about loud pipes.

Correct, I was just using my scenarios as another possibility for losing trail rights. As far as the loud pipe deal the DNR has just started heavy enforcement in this area but TOO late!

Even without loud pipes I think if I had a trail thru my yard near my house after 20 years of sled noise I would close the trial too... its unfair to blame it on the sleds when I am sure its just some guy getting old and tired of it and wants some peace and quiet. I agree with the sleds being quieter but I think there could be more to it.

I live 300' from a main trail that has operating hours from 8am/10pm.............. Not only late hrs. but verrrrrrrrrry loud pipes that buzz way after 10.. I can hear them inside my home very clearly.. No patrols all season (so far). And the speed limit is 15mph in this area.. Ya right..I get upset and I'm a sledder.. MM.

My house is about 150 feet from the trail in town. I can hardly hear sleds with stock exhaust. Loud cans on the trail are irresponsible and disrespectful. I am 48 years old, a snowmobiler all my life and I am tired of the noise from aftermarket cans so I don't blame the landowner. Loud sleds need to be ticketed.

I'm with Mr Sled on this. My stock Cats (800 triple and 600 twin 98 and 2000 respectively) where loud and can sleds today are about the same noise. Now if we could just get the highways closed to those obnoxious V-twins with their straight pipes!

So should loud motorcycles.

Yes loud motorcycle should be ticketed also. But loud motorcycles don't close snowmobile trails.

This is probably only a problem this year with the lack of snow elsewhere. Hopefully it can be explained and worked out with this fella.

Anyone have any info on where this closure is on trail 2? I heard rumors over by Ironwood but nothing official.
