Upgraded Battery Choices? / Lithium ? / Feedback?

Just used the cover the same way. It's a tight squeeze but it fits. After it is on there for some time it will become looser. The Yuasa 20 series that I had in there before had the terminals oriented the same way.

for the canadians here, was at carquest the other day and the eatx14 deka battery was on sale for 89.99, that is the battery i put in and it's a agm as far as i know

Thanks! On sale till January sometime I believe. Bought one after seeing your post! ;)!

Well my OCD got the best of me again and I just couldn't have the Odyssey battery mounted backwards because of the polarity orientation. Plus the PC545 was low on CCA @ 185 so it had to go.

I considered the Deka ETX-14 which is the exact same size as the original Yuasa and which has 220 CCA which is 20 CCA more than the original but I wanted to put in the largest most powerful battery that would fit properly.

I considered the Deka ETX-20L which is larger and will fit without the foam spacers but it is only available with the L polarity which is backwards.

In the end I chose the Interstate YTX20H-BS which is the largest battery that will fit properly (6 7/8" wide x 3 7/16" thick x 6 1/8" tall) and which has 310 CCA.

As you can see in the pictures this battery is the same size as the the outside dimensions of the foam spacers. It has the correct polarity orientation and it fits perfectly with the cover on it.

Thanks for the info.

The CCA's is great, which I am surprised is that high considering the size of the battery. ;)!

Yes, I was very happy to find a 310 CCA battery that fit properly. It makes me wonder why Yamaha did not put a 20 series battery in the sled for better cold temperature starting performance. I suppose it was to save a few dollars and a few pounds. The original battery was 10 pounds and the one I put in is 16 pounds. For me 6 extra pounds is worth the extra 110 CCA.

Dave where did you get the Interstate YTX20H-BS?

I checked Interstates website an they list three batteries when searching YTX20H-BS. The Cycle-Tron II - 3 AH, Cycle-Tron II - 4 AH, and the Cycle-Tron II - 14 AH. Can you tell me which one you purchased.

Thanks

Try searching for CYTX20 on the Interstate website...you'll have better luck finding it.

YUASA also makes a 310cca battery...I just ordered one earlier this week.

Any idea if it is also heavier than the stocker?

I bought the Interstate Cycle-Tron II 18AH part number CYTX20-BS. I paid $112 USD at my local Interstate battery store.

It weighs 16 pounds compared to 10 pounds for the original battery. For me 6 pounds of extra weight was a fair trade for 110 CCA of extra power.

Other companies offer a 20 series battery (which is the largest battery that will fit properly at 6 7/8" wide x 3 7/16" thick x 6 1/8" tall). I went with Interstate because I have had such good luck with their batteries in my boat.

Just make sure that you buy an AGM type battery and do not buy a 20L as the polarity orientation will be backwards.

Now you guys have me rattled, there's been a lot of 2-smoke bashing this summer with my viper buddies...I'd hate my stocker to let me down this season ;):D I'd never hear the end of it.

Anybody think there'd be any problems with putting that carquest ETX14 in an early 90's waverunner?

I'm confused by your post. Do you want to put an ETX-14 into a waverunner? Or do you have an ETX-14 from a waverunner that you want to put in your sled?

Guess I should have been more clear.

I'm thinking replace my old battery on my sled and also since it's on sale and a decent battery would it work on a jetski.

Yamaha did run the 20 in the early RX-1's. They went down to the 14 to save some weight.

I suspect that the ETX-14 will be powerful enough for a mid 90's Wave Runner. The important consideration is the size of the battery mounting tray in the Wave Runner and the polarity orientation (will it fit properly).

Try this link and put your Wave Runner information in the search function to see what size battery is recommended. You can also call them and ask questions. Good luck!

I run a 2 lb. Shorai Battery in my 1200 but down at 0 deg. F it gets a little sketchy. You are supposed to put a load on them first. Ideally it'd be best to put a switch somewhere and a set of grip warmers on the battery to load it prior to a cold start. Which I intended to do but for the most part my machine comes out of a 45 degree garage anyway and as of yet I haven't had an issue starting. When I go to the UP and the machine sits overnight, I always have the stock battery ready to go back in. it's not a quick easy thing to do on an Apex if it does'nt start, so you'd have to decide if the lightweight battery is worth the risk.
