I am looking to trade in my wife's 2012 Ski doo mxz tnt 600 etec with 1500 miles on it. While its a nice sled, it just feels cheap and compare to the other yamaha's in the stable (99' vecture xl (485 fan baby!), 09 nyto xtx, and 2013 apex xtx) it is a pain to work on and just generally feels cheap. A local dealer is offering me to trade it in on a '12 vector ltx with 4800 miles for $1000 or buy it for $8000. They also have another 2012 vector ltx with 70 miles on it but wont take trade for it, they instead are offering it for $9000. I'm torn, the vector with 70 miles for only $1000 more is the better deal, but them giving me effectivly $7000 for the skidoo on the other one complicates it. decisions, decisions

I'd buy the 2012 with 70 miles for $9000 then sell the Doo by yourself. Don't know how the used sled market is out by you but if it was here you'd sell it quick.....if it was priced right. Don't know what your Doo is worth out there.
OR
Tell the dealer you'll give him $500 and take the one with 4800 miles.
Remember, it's getting late in the season and a 2012 is essentially a 3 year old sled now. IMO...in my neck of the woods you could have bought a new 2012 LTX for under $9K early in the season.
4800 miles it'll need exhaust donuts if it hasn't already been done yet. Shocks recharged.
Sorry for the rambling........just Doo it...you only live once!!!!

The maintenance doesn't scare me, we do everything ourselves. I've done donuts, ball joints, tracks, clutches, you name it. Just never touched an engine. The nada/kbb for the skidoo are 8655/6930 and for a 2012 vector ltx is 9500/8450 so right around $1000 apart. Then factor in trading in means we only pay 5.5% sales tax on the difference vs the whole sled and thats an additional $385 saved by trading. The few power sports things I've sold (motorcycles and snowmobiles) I've always started above kbb/nada and never been able to sell it for that high.

You won't have to worry about the engine on the Vector.....I think you know that. I'd worry about the etech wayyyyyy before the Vector. I understand fully the sales tax benefit.
I have to believe that there is a $$$ figure the dealer will do on the 70 mile Vector taking the Doo in trade. Keep trying!!!

The reliability is exactly the reason for the trade. I'll keep working on them

Is she prepared to go back to a heavier sled?

With EPS she won't even notice it. She might even like it better vs. her Doo because the Yam feels more "planted" because of the weight. That's one of the reasons I've liked mine for so long.

Maybe, she isn't a serious rider so I'm not sure she would notice much

Not trying to be smart or anything, just something to keep in mind. I just came off an 07 Rev GTX and the weight difference between that and the new-to-me RS Venture is taking some getting used to. The hardest part though is going back to a sit down riding position.

No worries, it is a valid concern to address
