Valve check?

See post #39
That helps, thanks. When you had the reluctor ring issue did you also have idling issues? I don’t…. Once it fires, it runs fine. When it won’t start, after a minute or two of trying it will often do a huge backfire like a shotgun going off and then will usually start soon after that. I’ve tried the key off and on twice to cycle the fuel pump twice thing, no different. Every once in a while holding the throttle open just a tiny bit seems to help but not always. If the reluctor ring had jumped wouldn’t it be hard to start at any temp and run bad?

Depends which way it has moved, One way will cause possible kickback and the other way can cause it to be lazy and harder to start.
It's not that hard to check, just need a clutch puller and then remove four bolts and slide it out.

Hey guys, been a number of years since I’ve been on here. I just finished reading this entire thread. My sled has 19,370kms as of today. Last year i noticed my sled would stall coming up to a stop when letting off the throttle. This happened about 3-4x throughout the season. It has already done it to me once this year. I checked the TPS, it’s pretty well perfect at 0% closed and 99% open.
Sled gives me a hard time starting the very odd time, but other than that it starts great, especially when it’s warm.
Idles consistently between 1450-1550 and the sled runs great other than this stalling issue when letting completely off the throttle abruptly while coasting to a stop.
With the higher kilometres, should I be looking at adjusting my exhaust valves? From what I’ve read here, the intakes are usually fine.
I appreciate any input, thanks guys.

anything close to 10000 mi and acting like yours is needs the valves checked/set. seen it on the vector/ventures as well.

Damn Maim, I was hoping I wasn’t going to get that answer but I kinda already knew in the back of my mind, that was the answer I was going to get.

Would anyone be interested in helping me with a step by step YouTube video? I was thinking about possibly making a video with all the knowledge that’s compiled in this thread, but I need everyone’s help forsure to make it the simplest procedure possible.

Unless there’s already a video available???

Can't wait to see those pictures! Will you try the fastest more risky or longest way to do it? Btw, I'm currently doing my 1st ever and next will be doing my wife's! Quick inquiry here, what's the sealant type used for gasket cover? Do you even apply some? Also, here's my sheet. Wayyyy off the specs...with cold starting issues!

I used a dab of Yamabond sealer at the corners of the crescent seals on the valve cover gasket. This is pretty good stuff and I've had this tube for going on 20 years. It's still good as new and works perfectly.

Wow, those are definitely out of spec. How many kms/miles on the sled?

It's now a little over 20k km. I've own it since 2020 and it was at 10k back then. Previous owner told me that valve clearances were checked by dealer at the time and were ok... I've always doubt about it because slow/hard cold start has always been an issue. It has slowly becoming more and more annoying. Going to check starter too when valve job is done.

Cannondale, is this the second one on your Viper? after about 8- 10k miles again? I'm at 16k and thinking I might need a second adjustment. Was hoping we would all make the 20k after the first adjustment like the book said.

No. It’s my buddy’s 7000 at 11000mi. I checked mine a few seasons ago and valves were right where I set them first time. Not even going to look anymore unless I have symptoms. Convinced the monkeys at factory messed up.
