A Comfort Clutch Kit from Schmidt Bros. in Michigan will get you exactly what you want. 3 custom rollers and a primary spring for about $140. Schmidt also sells a kit for $10 that quiets down the at idle rattle. I have all of this and wish I would have done it long ago!

And yes you can get Polaris clutches to work on your Vector. Google Hartman Racing (it's not a race setup) and look thru their catalog for Polaris clutches for Yamaha.

I don't see that on their site? :dunno:

I found the comfort kit on there site but not the antirattle kit. Sent then a note but yet to receive a reply..

Looking forward to hearing/seeing what it is, and if it works, then that's $10.00 bucks well spent imo.

For $10 why don't you just give it a try? My clutch was never as noisy as some but it did quiet it down.

Hello Trapper! Did you buy the sled used? Previous owner could have made some clutching changes causing the harshness.

3" of forward and backward movement on the driven pulley sounds excessive. Check your chain adjustment, it could be loose. (Turn adjuster bolt in until it stops finger tight, then back out 1/4 turn.

Also, 14.5mm rollers are the smallest roller that Yamaha offers:

So if 14.5 is the smallest roller Yamaha has, what would the stock roller be?? I would think a larger roller would make for a "softer" engagement, I may be out to lunch on this one..
I emailed Schmidt Bros. again as I did not get a reply from them. I live in Canada and want to know if they ship here..

CALL them. Chris seems to be either talking on the phone (like he did 2X with me for a long time) or working on stuff. I had to convince him to try PayPal again as it doesn't seem like he's real computer savvy.

The shim washers from Chris work well. The comfort spring works excellent too. I will put comfort spring in every sled I ride from now on! I had it on my 13 vector this season. It was first thing everyone commented on after riding my sled.

Thanks Travis, guess I should just call/write him and ask for the shim kit.

I am currently running an Ulmer clutch kit and love it. Never heard of the "Comfort spring" until this thread but I personally don't think I need it? (Hard to say definitely don't as I have never tried one obviously)

It's the Comfort Clutch Kit. The kit consists of custom sized rollers and a primary spring. Engagement RPM's on my 05 Vector are 2800 RPM.

Not trying to step on anyone's toes but do the rollers and ypy spring. Much cheaper than a kit you can buy.

Which rollers?

trapper..sorry...I just saw your email in my spam folder...yes..the gents are correct...14.5 rollers (smaller) will help low engagement...makes the weights act and throw heavier...IMHO you can also go to a spring with a lower start rate....if you are less concerned with upshift than backshift and a lower revving feel less secondary spring twist helps...p.m. me if you need to..

I would call Chris at Schmidt Bros. directly. He told me about his $10 rattle kit while on the phone. I didn't see it on their website either.

Goo idea, will do. Thanks :-o

Thanks all you sledders who took the time to read and respond to my note. I have talked to Chis at SBM and he is sending me the "comfort kit" and anti rattle shims. He says this will remedy my problem. Now I hope to get the parts before all our snow is gone so I can give it a try..
Thanks again... :jump:
