I have my Vector ER back to the dealer for a problem with code 84 (throttle overide t.o.r.s.) displaying every few miles along with rapid, loud backfiring from the exhaust. Way too warm for carb freezing. Naturally, they can't duplicate it in the shop, and say everything checks out. I am already getting flack from my Skidoo "friends" and wondering if anyone else has seen this problem. Idling for a few seconds clears it out.

When I have had that it has been from a too tight throttle cable (after a jet change). Tell them you want the switch changed and every connection double checked. It is a new sled and you are the boss.

That switch is tripped in the first 1/8-1/4" of throttle movement, that is why you need a little slack in the cable for it to trip.

loosen the throttle cable some (down by where the cable goes into the carb rack). This being too tight will activate the TORS and is causing your back firing. All you need is a 10 MM wrench and turn it in 1 or 2 turns!

Thanks. I'll take another look if they don't find anything tomorrow. Before I took it in, I saw that the cable did slack slightly in the idle position and the idle screw touched the stop but it was close. Maybe a full tank and a bottle of isopropyl would be in order just to make sure. One thing's for sure, I can't have this happening in January when I'm riding with the "other 3" two strokes. I'm already hearing about it!

I too am having this same issue. I have the RS Venture and have already had it back to the shop for service but like you they cannot duplicate it. However, like a lot of people on this site, I adjusted my throttle assemble down from the stock position to reduce the thumb fatigue. However, when I adjusted it back to the original position the problem has since disappeared so it sounds like maybe the throttle cable are being shipped a little too tight from the factory.

Interesting...Thanks! I'll back the cable off a little bit and see what happens. Our 6" snow forcast turned out to be more like 2", so I'm not sure if they are going to ride it this morning or not. Once this problem is gone, I can tell that this is going to be an awesome sled!

Ok, I have not touched anything on on my throttle. I have a new rage. Have you guys that have had problems all adjusted your throttles?? Just trying to get a heads up on what not to do....so the machine runs sweet when i take it out for the first time.....

I have not touched or adjusted anything...yet. When I called the dealer before I took it in, the one thought they had was that the cable was too tight making the switch think the carbs were iced. However, I did not change anything before dropping it off. When I checked it while not running, I could see that the cable tension was released just barely when the throttle stop screw contacted the stop, so I figured that was ok. I dropped it off on the way home from up north, then I see in the owner's manual at home that there is a measurement to check at the throttle lever. About an eighth of an inch freeplay I believe, but look it up to be sure. This would be an easy check. Wish I had taken my manual with me...hate leaving my sled anywhere where I'm not.

Yes, 1/8" to 3/16" freeplay at the throttle lever will solve the TORS problem!

Ok, the dealer just called and said my sled is ready. According to them, here's what they found. They said the throttle cable was miss-routed so when the handlebars were turned, it was pulling on the cable. They rerouted it and it's fine. Hope that's true. I'm trying to remember the conditions of the three times it happened last week. I know two times I was on a tight winding path through the trees at low speeds. The very first time I think the handlebars were straight, but it was just after going around a corner on an unplowed road. I'm going to double check that freeplay measurement when I get it home and keep my fingers crossed. I'll let you know after the next snow.

I could buy that. Otherwise they blew checking for slack and tors switch activation during set-up. Every dealer with even the most basic knowledge should know to check this. Shame shame on them if that is the case.

I'm buying it too one way or the other. A short time will tell. Everyone makes mistakes, but they always seem to be on something that I happen to buy. Either way, just so it's fixed. He sounded confident that it was and that's all I care about. That thing rocks. Gimme some more snow!!!

So you think that they actually do more at dealer setup besides mount the skis, install the windshield, and reposition the handlebars? ME? I really doubt it.

setup

I doubt it too. wish i could just save the setup charges, pick the thing up in a crate and assemble it at home. can't be much harder than some of the kid's toys...
