Hey All,
I am in the process of possibly buying a second RS Vector.
This one is an 06, bought new @ and of 07'
Old gentleman used it for 1 season in 2008, and logged only 375 Miles that season, and 50 miles the season after, then he passed away.
So, in total, the machine has less than 500 miles, and has not really been driven over 80 miles an hour.
The sled has been in storage for 3 years, and his wife is selling it.
Apparently the oil was changed by the dealer a couple weeks ago, and given a once over.
I am heading to look at it tomorrow night, and was wondering if there is anything particular I should be looking for?
Advice/Tips are greatly welcomed!!
Thanks

Re: Vector with SUPER Low Miles? What to watch for?? Need He
Curious if you're familiar with the dealer where it was serviced, are they good, do you trust them etc?
Not sure what to tell you to look for other than obvious things like sliders, free spinning wheels, chain case oil etc.
I would also dump fresh gas in after removing the old stuff, add some Sea Foam and see if it runs/idles good? If not, then a good carb cleaning if it hasn't already been done?
How's the battery, new or original, does it hold a charge?
Good luck.

Great thanks!
I was just worried about sertain seals that may have dried out, or sertain areas that may sieze from sitting....
No, I am not familliar with the dealership, but I am sure I will be able to call them and get the details.
Thanks, and I will let everyone know how I make out tonight!!!

Follow some tips/suggestions in this link, full of great info.
I would check/re-grease the drive and jackshaft bearings like one of the links in here recommends.

With that many miles it's just barely broken in. As you know these sleds need a little upgrading to make them handle and ride better. But if you are getting a great deal, you are buying a good sled. The money you save you can buy some upgrades.
I would just look under the front end to make sure that he didn't hit anything, should run well after some fuel system cleaner.

Err, the elephant in the room here is the chain tesioner. Try to find out if the previous owner had the update done.

Just replaced my tensioner on 06 Vector, with 18,000 kms on it. Replaced it for peace of mind as was having no issues. Old tensioner looked good, but who knows. Having so few kms on it, maybe look at doing the tensioner when the exhaust donuts need to be replaced as well, because they will absolutely burn out.

I've heard all about the chain tensioner issue, read the techinical service bulletin on it, and heard about people changing them just for piece of mind. But I would be curious to know how many people have actually had this fail on them. I have yet to hear of a single one.

I have a friend of the family that almost lost their vector to this. major damage and yami helped cover some of the repairs.

I didn't mean to hijack the OP's original question ... sounds like a deal. With that low of miles, there probably isn't much to worry about. My '06 Nytro has 10k miles on it and hasn't even had a hiccup.
With regards to the chain tensioner ... I'm glad Yamaha helped out. Just out of curiosity, how many miles were on the sled?

No problem with the Hijack, I don't mind one bit, this is the discussion I like!
Well, ended up buying the old girl...well, not really old, but anyway.
The thing purred like a kitten, and is clean as a whip!
Seriously not one thing looked the least bit worn out, so that makes me happy, mind you with 375 miles on the machine, what could be worn out...lol.
Yes a fuel system clean will need to be done, and that will probably be it.
I will have some pics of the beast when I pick it up next week.
Thanks for all the info., and for the record, I don't think I will worry about the cam chain tensioner for a while yet...

Keep an eye on the sliders...mine wore down in no time. Adding an extra set of idlers helps, maybe even try a set of the new sliders with the Dupont inserts.

Give a Yamaha dealer the VIN #. This could give you an idea of what has been done to that sled in the past.

We;;. just thought I would give everone an update.
Picked up the "New to me" Vector on the weekend.
Sure enough, the machine is mint!!!
Actually has 609 original kilomters ( 380 miles )
The owner bought it for his wife, who was supposed to use it to tow her german sheppard around in an Equinox Ski-boose. He had a venture bumper installed with wiring for lights etc....
Well, they bought the sled new in late 07', used it for half of 2008, and unfortunatley. the dog passed away. So his wife was not into sledding...They used it in 2009 for about a 100 miles, and then not again till now, when I picked it up....
The previous owner included a set of saddle bags, and a set of mirrors, that he paid to have istalled.
He even gave me the original bill of sale!!!
So needless to say, the thing has hardly been used.
( He drives an 06' Apex )
Anyway, just thought I would share, and I will be sure to post some pics up shortly.
Thanks for reading, and let me warn you, boy o boy, do I have a pile of questions.
Cheers
