Venture Lite pre-purchase concerns

As a previous owner of a 2008 Venture Gt I felt fine purchasing a 2007 model as a 2nd machine for wife/ friends to go in to the cottage. This one had one owner, 5000k, studded and had all warrany and services done, price $2500. I have some concerns mentioned below and can still run from this deal. Opinions please.

Yesterday I took it for a 1.5 hour gentle run to make sure it was ok and loosen it up before a planned service later in the day. Minus 30c and it started fine.

Issue #1. The temp light went on and off. Then 10 minutes later went on and stayed on. I brought it back, gently. During the oil change service the mechanic (not associated with a dealer but an excellent tech and Yamaha owner) could not see any reason for the temp gauge going on. It was full of antifreeze, the fan wasn't seized everything looked normal. Could it be a sensor? Should I take it to a dealer and have what checked?

Issue#2 the oil in the chain case was milky, showing water. We flushed it out twice and will check it later. I know this has never been sunk, any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

$2500 is a smoking hot deal! If you don't get it, I will!

For the supposed overheating, what kind of snow conditions were you running in? Loose snow, hard packed or icy? If hard or icy, that's pretty normal and happens to me once in a while. I just move into some loose snow and it goes out. I added a temp gauge and it really doesn't go that high since I can monitor the temperature better. Maybe yours might just need a coolant flush or the thermostat is defective. Sensor is also a possibility. Without a gauge, there is no way of knowing.

Either way, it's still a good deal even if it needs a repair.

as to the chain case oil, odds are it was stored in a humid environment and just collected water over the off season. double check it later but once it is run through a few heat cycles, it should be fine.

Yeah, I've had milky chaincase oil myself and I take good care of my sled. It happens. Heat cycling might suck some moisture in. After that change and rinse, it should be fine.

I guess that is an advantage of regular chain case oil. Since synthetic doesn't become milky with water...

Thanks guys. Talked to a good mechanic and he agreed.

Heating probably due to hard packed trail and low speeds. (I never saw this on my 08, so my being cautious until coolant was checked was fair). I will get it out next weekend for a decent run and watch it.

Oil issue something to watch.

It will be a great 2nd machine. Appreciate all the support.

No problem. Lots of guys here to help out if needed.
