I have a brand new winder went for the first ride to break it in an there is so much vibration in the handle bars it is putting my hands an forearms to sleep an it doesn’t matter if it is at idle or driving it up to the 6k rpm for breaking before I drove I have alway sprayed foamed the inside of bars to help with heat because I have nerv damage in both my arm but if can’t get this fix this sled is going to have to go because I can’t drive it I only have 84 miles I put on an I have been in pain for 2 days from riding it where should I look to stop this.

I'd say theres a possibility it will simmer down a little after the break in period. Which is 300 miles. I also found this from another thread. Might be worth a look as well. I got a brand new xtx 0 miles i can check in the morning to see if it has a lot of vibration while on the stand best i can do with no snow.

This motor will naturally have more vibration than say a Apex as its really a unbalanced design where a Apex with four cylinders is a more balanced designed. Installing a anti- vibration kit on the sled will help with your arm problem as I don’t recall the company but if I remember right it was called Grip-it and Rip it… Works great and took care of 90% of the problem…

I have not experienced the vibrations on my SideWinder like you are describing.
An obvious question....Is it running on all three cylinders?
Maybe you have a primary clutch issue...you could try removing the primary clutch and let it idle to see if it still vibrates as much.
Sounds like something is definitely not right. Maybe see if you can try another persons SideWinder to compare?

He found his problem with secondary clutch from his attachment information I think.. In some cases the 998 is pretty smooth, in other cases its seems pretty rough if you come off a perfectly balance motor.. For the most part alot of the imbalance is created from guys taking balanced clutches apart and upon reassemble they don’t know what goes where or don’t care… Just the design of 998 because its a three cylinder its bound to have some vibrations just how much is acceptable is each his own.. Still a great proven motor period…

Only time any of my 998 powered sleds vibrated was with a cracked stub shaft, throwing the primary clutch out of balance.

Seems something not right w engine or primary clutch or both. Running on all 3?
IMO 998s are pretty smooth.

There should be no design flaws in this engine chassis combo to have any vibration. Something isn't right or buttoned down properly somewhere that will be obvious. Its not something like a burned belt from loading is it? Check the easy stuff first, belt & clutches go from there. Or get it back to the dealer if its new. It's under warranty for a reason. Winders don't vibrate.
