Just had my new 2016 viper rtx se out for the first time.it had run in the garage a few times on the stand maybe 25 minutes total. Anyhow....... went up north -14f and the @#$$% thing wouldn't start . Fired and then dies.... Fired again and let out an ungodly backfire that made my ears ring all morning. the noise from this echoing inside the trailer is unbelievable. tore it apart and the plugs where soaked totally flooded. Dried everything off and got it to go...... My build date is 11/20/2015 is that late enough that it has the proper reflash in it ?Any way to tell? Could it just be a fluke cause it was new ? idles at 1450-1500 but does seem lumpy . Takes more cranking to start warm or cold then my supposedly old tech inferior carb Vector. Is the backfire what takes the starter gear out ?

Simple fact, these things do not start or idle well, nothing close to the carbed or EFI motors in the Japanese Yamahas. Unless the dealer reflashed yours there is another flash, came out this winter. For me it made mine start much worse, but others have had good results. The flash is supposed to protect the starter from kickbacks.Just had my new 2016 viper rtx se out for the first time.it had run in the garage a few times on the stand maybe 25 minutes total. that is a real bummer I bought this for the far superior ride and handling but figured id also get something reliable . I see there are performance companies offering remap but I wouldn't care about that . Can any of those companies just make it run like a Vector ?
If it was first ride I bet all it was is crappy old gas. Give it another try before getting all bummed out.that is a real bummer I bought this for the far superior ride and handling but figured id also get something reliable . Dealer confirmed mine is 17 flash . U crank it and it fires then dies .figured out the trick is to keep cranking when it fires don't let off and then it will fire again and catch . Hot or cold it takes way more to start then the 850o mile 05 vector I have as well . It's just really odd

I always a jump pack to start the sled first thing in the morning, especially when its cold. It turns the motor over a lot quicker. After that cold morning start, things seam fine. Also, try dumping those crap Cat batteries and replace with a good aftermarket.

Could be weak battery, although my viper is brand new, so that's pretty lame. My aprilia does that when the battery is low and it wasn't ridden for a week or two.
