I have a VIper LTX on the way and a buddy with the 2012 procross 800. I am teasing him if I am even in sight of him "I win".
How much difference is there really? I know it is 135 verses 160+ HP, and he will weigh less. I am assuming it is like a 600 v 800 difference. I that right.

Before clutch change on the girlfriends Viper the M8 stomped it. After the clutch change 153 track add the Viper runs even up with the M8 to 45 mph or so. Yamaha torque launchs better than the cat 800, at least in our tests. Please note the M8 is bone stock except skis.
Don't bet a dime on expecting to beat a Cat 800. As always there will be stories of a smaller sled beating up on a bigger sled....but realistically it's not going to happen stock vs stock.
I don't think a 153 800 cat turning a 2 1/2 lug track is a good comparison. Ha! Even so, up to 45 mph isn't saying much. A cat snopro 500 will 0-30 with or quicker than some big sleds. Lol.
These 1049 motors are torquey and fun, but don't have much on the big end for two stroke 800's.

I've ridden with basically all 800 2 strokes this past year. Mine was clutched right from the start so maybe it's not a good comparison but if your sled is studded and you have your suspension setup real good for a hard launch and you can get a sled length or two jump on the launch it's gonna take awhile for a true stock 800 to run you down. I'm studded heavy with a clutch setup mainly for drag racing and I've beaten as many 800s as prolly what have beaten me. If an 800 owner knows what their doing and has them setup properly you won't win with a stock viper no matter how hard you try lol if you are up against an out of the box sled and you add some little tricks here and there then it'll be a fun year of racing as the viper can no doubt compete against stock 800s if setup properly.

Not going to start an argument here, but the M8 AND our converted Viper are chassis wise set up the same. If your Viper doesn't run as good as mine or Studroes read my clutch thread or buy a clutch kit as the Viper is pretty sick out of the box.
By the way, we switched off between riding the M8 and the Viper all last year so this wasn't a one time thing. But, I expected some flack for posting what I did.

Remember I only have to stay close for a while.....LOL
My hope is to get it set up and be close to say 80 or so and give him a hard time

Only hope is gonna be to get out in front of him..once you're out and going the 800 will walk away. Just get the sled to sit low to the ground and stud it good so it doesn't spin and hope for the best

Buddah, not really racing, call it embarassing a friend. I mean what are friends for?
Good to here from you. Would like to ride with you again this winter. We will have to make it work.

Well I toasted my buddies 14 snopro 800 but only with 6#'s of boost in my XTX. Then I pulled out the ProR 800 and it is stock and made him cry
He is not very mechanical and it is bone stock (needs clutching bad) but on anything other than groomed trail he could only see a top end of about 84 on GPS.
If the motor makes as listed HP it is not using it to the full potential. The ProR makes less HP but is lighter and seems to float very well on the deep snow on the lakes. I can constantly see 95 mph on GPS after it gets hooked up & rolling. on Groomed trails the max on the ProR is 104 GPS but everything has to be right.
