VIper mtx track moving sideways at the drivers

Yamaha said it was the play was normal . bull #*$&@ so got the dealer to shave a bit of the the rear skid rods that go through the rear linkage .
So there was not so much play left and rite and order all new bushings for the rear shock and sissor. And with the 4 wheel kit and front shock
Is way better

I have got same issues with my 15 mtx 153,both insides of drivers worn from track clips ,bad vibration, track out of alignment by drivers yet rear of track alignment ok, antistab wheel bearings toast etc. Only 300 miles on it. Dealers can not find anything wrong or will not spend the time because Yamaha not paying them for warranty on something they will not acknowledge as a problem. I just went through all the posts from sidewinder mountain and sidewinder trail and did not see one issue of worn drivers, track alignment issues at drivers, rubbing of track inside tunnel, seems to be no issues that I can find posted with the winders but yet our vipers have the same skid as them(or much the same with the btx and mtx). Some with this issue have just given up trying to find a fix for this and running it like it is or have modified things to make it work.to me it is up to Yamaha to fix this not us but with no more viper mtx or btx long tracks being produced we are given the shaft.

But a better skid shock , 4 wheel kit and tightening the rear sissor linkage helps. My clips are not eating the driver's and the track is not rubbing on the inside off the tunnel that I can see or feel so far

It's hard to say if my fix really make the difference. On the bench it is much better but in the snow much of the time I look at, the front of the track is to the left. However I think i hear less rubbing. My anti stab wheels are still ok but i only have about 800 km so far this winter. I had some bigger problems to worry about . I don’t know why but my clutching was way out compared to last year. I had to ad 11 grams by clutch weights to avoid the rev limiter like if the sled is giving much more hp now. And it do feel more powerful. Maybe it wasn't boosting before. I had to wait 6 weeks to get the setting hardware (washers, screws etc) and as soon as I got it set up right, my starter blew. They had to open the engine to find all the gears parts so i lost the sled for another three weeks. Now the winter is almost over and i barely used it. To help me again, we have the weirdest winter ever here with Rain in February and the snow is so icy I can stand on it. Not much fun for a mountain sled and the hyfax dont like it either. So far I cant say im satisfied with the reliability of the viper and i considered trading it but i would have lost too much so i will give it another chance but it’s not the quality im used to with yamaha and it make me consider other brands.

I here you, been riding yamaha's since 1995 and the four strokes since 2005 all used and never new ,and never had issues that could not be figured out with some knowledge from places like this or yamaha dealers till now. Bought the sled new one year two months ago and only have ridden it 5 times and 300 miles and have had issues 4 of those times.i can put up with some of the fit and finish issues and having to go to aftermarket to make this thing run like it should but this is getting to the point of just wanting to get rid of it and take my loses and move on.Dealer gave up and yamaha does not give a s____.No use putting on the new mpi turbo that have had sitting in box for 2 and 1/2 months if can not find out what is causing the vibration, driver wear, rubbing etc.

So they acknowledge the problem but are un aware of how to fix it? Did they check driver alignment

I measure the drivers on the shaft and the left side seems to be pressed in further than the right side. I gotta call around the dealers see if there heard about this

Not to be negative, but wouldn't you have to pull the shaft out to get a more accurate measurement.

So you did pull the shaft and that is when you found that the left driver was out of spec when measuring.when I had mine at dealer the first couple of times they told me that the drivers were not out of spec and that was not the issue.i had brought that up to them about getting a accurate measurement with out taking out shaft and they said they were able to .i guess others are better at eyeballing than using a measuring device .

This is what i want to do next summer. Remove the shaft and control those drivers. However, from what i measured with the shaft in place, the drivers seems to be where they are supposed to be and there's a lot of play at the extro drivers for the track to move sideways so it doesn't seem to be the drivers' task to keep the track centered. It seems to be no ones task anyway! I see that play when i lift the back of the sled and switch to reverse and forward. The track moves right and left until the side of the extro drivers touch the track in the holes. If they were only intro drivers, the track would probably reach the tunnel. What i suspect is that the teeth of both drivers aren't timed together and this is what i want to measure. This is the only way i found so far to explain why the track moves to the left when it spin forward and to the right when going backward. Maybe i'm wrong but to me, any other reason i can think of would make the track always tend to the same side (a difference in diameter, a misaligment or the drivers not being centered). I will keep you informed at this time but it will be after the season. These days i try to ride as much as i can but it is at the dealer again. This week end i did about 30km, blew a belt and the gems controller quit working.

That might explain why one driver is worn more on the face!

Did you ever find the solution to your problem? I have the EXACT same issue with my 2016 MTX 153. Track runs left at the driveshaft in forward and right in reverse, no matter how I adjust it. Lots of vibration when the drivers contact the track clips
