What is everyone seing for voltage with their sled running, The most I see is 13.2V and that's with my warmers off, when turned on its like 12.8V.
I had a bad battery a couple weeks ago and I'm wondering if its a charging issue?

13.2 volts is a good charging voltage and because you did not state the RPM your engine was running when you turned the hand warmers on I am making an assumption that you were at engine idle speed or 1500 RPM which would also be about right for the Viper charging system. Normally when you have the hand warmers on your engine is running 3,000+ RPM. At that engine speed the generator is making more power so you should see a higher voltage. So unless I have made an incorrect assumption everything seems to be working OK. Now At 1500-2000 RPM 12.8 volts is about all you may from the system with the warmers turned on.

Trevor, my dealer charges every battery for a minimum of 24 hours befor they put them into service. This insures that the battery is fully charged prior to being put into use. In addition, I charge my batteries as they go into storage in the spring, once through the summer/fall and then again prior to putting my vehicles back in service. I use an Optimate 4 charger which tests, desulfiates, charges and tops off the batteries and then tests that the battery is holding a charge prior to giving the battery a clean bill of health. This is the same charger my dealer uses to charge their batteries prior to installation.

That may seem like a lot of work but not as much as you may think. I have pigtails attached directly to my batteries in my Vipers and in my 2001 Venture so they are a direct plug in. My Diesel garden tractor and gas golf cart have full easy access and I use standard charger alligator clips for those vehicles with the same charger. Using this method and charger I fully expect to get a minimum of 6 years battery life. My 2001 Venture is on it's second battery and the first lasted 7 years before it was replaced. And would have lasted longer but I worked a couple years in Tallahassee, Florida and the battery was not serviced during that 2 year period.

In summary, it looks like the sled is operating in the correct manner. And if you get a good charger that does not over charge your battery and and can provide the service it needs to keep it in good condition you should get many years of service from your new battery.

There were early failures with the 2014 Vipers, some because of bad batteries and others because the dealer did not service them properly prior to putting them into service. However, with a good dealer prep and some preventative maintenance on your part you should see many years of service out of your new battery.

Hope this helps!

John

The most I've seen even cruising at 6000-7000 room is 13.2.

My last battery I had I was riding all day and every time I turned it off and re started it you could tell it was losing juice.
So I replaced it and it works fine, I'm just thinking maybe the charging system isn't up to snuff.

Did you have your dealer check the charging system? Why did you replace the battery and nor have it fixed under warranty?

The warranty was finished I have a 2014 I bought used.
I did not get the charging system checked, I'm going to need to get it all checked out before next season.

I thought that Canadian buyers had a two year warranty for the 2014 Vipers. Sorry about that. There have been very few if any charging problems with the Vipers that I can remember so I would not expect that to be your issue but, as they say, anything is possible. Most of the electrical problem dealing with failure to start or issues with charging causing other problems have been directly related to defective batteries or failure of a dealer to perform the initial charge properly.

Has your sled had all of the updates? Specifically the ECU reflash, reverse detent update, and the fuel line dealer assessment and repair, if needed, which is a safety recall. If your not sure you should be able to take your serial number to any dealer and inquire about the status of any recall or update on your Viper.

Those Yausa are horrible. Mine died on the first ride of this season in my 2014 viper. And all that stuff about a 24 hr chargerequired on these sleds is bunk. I bought a dry battery in Hurley at noon. had it on the charger for less than 2 hours and in the sled by 3 pm rode it the rest of the season with no problems. it is pulled now and on a maintenance charger that I turn on and off every other week.

I have a stock 2010 vector with original yuasa battery. 15000 miles and never removed or charged battery over the summer. start right up every winter can't ask for more than that.

What is a dry battery? Lithium ion? What brand and model did you get? Sounds interesting. By the way how is you crazy viper from Ulmer running? What is it, like 280 hp or something?

what do you need to do to get that sled back? Is it something you could finish yourself? If I still lived in Minnesota I'd love to work on a sled like that! Have a great ride!

I just want to pull the trigger 1 time maybe we could start a team get yamadogs sled back

any idea what is left to finish on it?
