Voltage Rectifier Failure

Just a heads up on a possible problem that is preventable. First trip of the year, my 06 Pro died on me. Headlights went dim and eventually killed the battery. It doesn't run without power. Inside the right side on the rectifier (closest to the front of the machine) the positive tab had rusted right off. No power was making it back to the battery. Looking at the tabs that hold the wiring in place, I noticed they are not sealed properly. Snow is constantly coming in the front and top of the hood, making this area wet. I would take them both apart, check them, use lithium grease, and silicone them back into place to keep the water out. My dealer wouldn't cover it as I'm over my warranty and the part is $300.00 . Hope this helps prevent some breakdowns way back in the bush. Fortunately i was only 5 minutes from home.

had the same problem with my 06 vk pro in the second season I now have the 08 and am using electrical grease on it every now and again to keep the water out. I mentioned this on this site back when it happened in dec of 07. I have seen a few more sleds with this exact same problem
vk owners you should keep an eye on this as it happens quite often

I don't have a picture but I can tell you where to look.
Right in the front there is a rubber flap. Pull it back and underneath the frame you will see the voltage regulator and there are two plugs into it. that is where the problem starts I pull them apart and use electrical grease to keep the water out. Also make sure this flap is in place all the time.
