Well i did some searching on this topic and i decided i want to put 8 tooth anit ratchet drive with a 2inch track on my 06 attak.
I want to make sure that i get the right ones.. so does anyone know the right size i should get?
Also what kind of changes will i have to make to either gear or clutching to make up for the change in driver size?
Anyone have a good track recommendation also? i love to play off trail in the powder as my friend has a apex mountain that i have to keep up with haha

Hope i can get some input on this as the snow is just around the corner

Thanks!

You lose about 2.5 teeth on top switching drivers. i had 2 attaks & they are miserable in deep snow. bigger lug track = deeper trench.

On the Apex, look for 2.52 pitch drivers. Then whatever tooth (8 or 9 tooth) you want to go. As far as companies, both Wahl Bros. and Avid seem t be the most popular companies.

The stock ones were 9 tooth drivers. To fit a larger track, you'll need to switch to 8 tooth. As I understand it, switching from 9 tooth to 8 tooth will gear you down some, giving you more power. Some find that is enough.

Are going to a longer track? If so, you may want to also gear down to help you spin the larger track. If you are staying the stock length track, then you may be fine with just some clutching tweaking.

You have a 136" right now. The Apex is a heavy sled and if you want to go off trail, I'd recommend rail and tunnel extensions to 144" or 151". It'll help you a lot off trail.

In terms of tracks, to go anything over 1.4"-ish, you'll need to remove the inside tunnel protectors. But then you should be able to fit up to a 2" track back in there.

As Turk said, it'll take a lot of work to get your Attak anywhere near your buddies Mountain Apex. You may just be better off selling and looking for a Mountain sled if you play off trail alot in really deep stuff.......

yeah we dont go in crazy amounts of snow.. i got by pretty good last year with just a stock rip saw with studs...but i hate studs for one thing, and all the clips are gone, and its ripping apart real bad.. thats why i want to upgrade to a little bigger lug and i dont want any more ratcheting!!
im planing on just staying with the 136

I have the 1.5" track on my Attak. I do not remember which one, other than it is not the ripsaw.
People that have a liking to go play in the deeper snow have found missing track clips. I had 2 track repalced by Yamaha do to the missing clip problem. I will save that for another post.

Turk is correct the Attak is a trenching monster. The taller lug track will help. Nothing like the Apex mountain. As mentioned streching it out to a 144 will help lots. Check with Ulmer he has a kit that will strech the skid out to a 144. He even mentions that you do not need to extend the tunnel.

Give Port a call. Kevin will sell you the Whals.

As for my Attak. My girlfriend has no problems playing off trail. She just doe not land to well LOL :)

Go to Maxsled.com and look on past articles and you will find one on the 2006 attak. They made some very needed changes and one of them was the Wahl drivers.
