If you bought it it must have been a really good deal.Well sometimes there is a reason for that.Contact the owner and if it was stolen confirm it was stolen. Then go to your local police station with the sled and tell them the whole story.Leave the sled with the police and try to get your $ back from the guy you bought it from.If you cant get it back well thats just to bad and a expensive lesson.Just do the right thing.

Will Yamaha USA give out the previous owner info just like that? In Canada there would be a privacy issue and they wouldn't be able to give that info out.

I hope they will do it..

Actually Jim; the title/no title for sleds, dirt bikes, boats etc.... is a state by state operation. In Montana anything that is drivable/ridable and has an Internal Combustion Engine of 50 CC or more; is issued a title from the MT DMV. All trailers (including home made) in MT also have titles.

Under the new privacy act, you can not give out any info about a previous owner of anything!

cannondale27,
Somehow I think that it this guy takes the sled to the police and goes back to the guy he bought it from.......... Not thinking that guy is going to just refund the money, especially with the sled sitting at the police station?????
And yes, title is a state by state thing.
I have my thoughts on why Norway would not let you import the RX-1. It is much like here and in Canada. If a car or other vehicle doesn't have the sticker that says "meets all Canadian and USA standards" it is much more difficult to import. At that point, you have to get a manufacturer letter saying it does meet those standards, well if it doesn't actually meet standards, they aren't likely to give you that letter.
When my wife and I got married, we have to leave her car behind in Canada, just cause the sticker had fallen off from under the hood, and it was WAY TOO MUCH OF A PAIN to write the manufacturer and wait that long to import a commuter car.
