Warn 2500 problems?

Anyone else out there have problems with the Warn 2500? I just recently had to use my winch to pull myself and a stuck trailer out of the goo (haven't been stuck yet with just me and the beast). I hooked up to a tree, started pulling, and the winch started grinding, almost like it was stuck between free-spool and locked. I asked a buddy of mine who works at a local Yamaha shop and he said that they have gotten quite a few of the 2500's back with this same problem. Anyone else have this same thing happen to them? Is the 2500 that they "give away" with the grizzly's junk or what? I'm thinking of dropping it on the doorstep of the place that I bought the machine and buying a 3000...any comments would be appreciated.

The 2000 and 2500 have the same internal parts and are just powered differently. I would suspect that the 3000 also shares the same gears and housing. Is there any chance that it got full of silt and caused the problem? I have had 4 Warn winches and have only had to replace selonoids a few times.

It was brand new, first time I ever used it. I brought it back to the dealer I bought the machine from and they sent it out for repairs.

I just started to install my winch last night. I was reading through the book. The first thing you should do after your done the installation is pull the line out and load it with about 600 lbs. and run the winch in to stretch the cable some. The noise you heard could have been the cable binding or stretching under a heavy load. You did say it was the first time you use the winch. Right ?
Just a thought for ya. Stan

I just got my grizz a few weeks ago and could not be happier with it. :yam:

warn also has a recall on the 2500s for catching fire, somthing like a relay i cant rember...
