Anyone have issues with Yamaha replacing their 2006 radiator on their Apex uinder warranty? These were the radiators that had weak, failure-prone mounting tabs.

My servicing dealer (Port Yamaha) has indicated that they are not familar with this issue and will need to check w/the Yamaha Rep for an authorization for warranty repair.

Here is the e-mail that I sent to my servicing dealer:

I’d like to coordinate with you to bring my 2006 Yamaha Apex to your shop for a repair that I believe to be covered under my remaining Y.E.S. policy (I attached a copy of my warranty card). While doing a thorough cleaning of my snowmobile recently, I noticed that one of the 3 mounting tabs that secure the radiator to the frame is broken. Specifically, the bottom mounting tab cracked where it is welded to the radiator. So, at this time the radiator is only secured by the remaining top 2 mounting tabs.

I read quite a bit about Yamaha snowmobiles on www.TY4STROKE.com, and I did read several posts regarding 2006 model year Apex’s with this same problem. From what I have read, it is my understanding that Yamaha changed the design of the mounting tabs after the 2006 model year and the defective radiators were eligible for replacement under the warranty program. Are you familiar with this problem on the ‘06’s? Could you let me know if you believe this repair will be cover under Y.E.S? If so, please let me know when I may bring my snowmobile in to be repaired.

Hopefully they will okay it. I only have a few months left on the Y.E.S. warranty and I was hoping to get this one thing taken care of.

They just did mine at the end of season last year. You will be impressed with the quality of the mounts now. They should never break again.

Gary's in Caribou, Maine was the dealer.

They are a first class service shop...

Well, it sounds as if my dealer is communicating with the Yamaha Rep regarding the warranty repair of my radiator. He just requested photos of the broken mounting tabs.

Here are photos that I provided. I sure hope the rep doesn't try to deny the warranty claim...

This topic is the first i've heard of this issue on 06's. Being an 06 owner im now kinda concerned.. I'm out of warranty, no recall ever on this by yamaha?

If you search the message board for keywors like: radiator mounting tab

You'll find several hits from owners who had this problem addressed under warranty on their '06's. Some folks brought up the notion of a recall, however there never was one.

I just found out in March that I had Y.E.S. coverage through January 2011 (the previous owner told me that the warranty was over). I'm glad they are honoring the warranty repair on a machine 5 model years old.

Hey at least you noticed yours ahead of mine... I was going down the trail when I noticed the smell of antifreeze... stopped and took the side panel off to see the wonderful green liquid squirting out the middle of the radiator. That was the only time I have ever had to trailer my sled home.

No it was rubbing on the reverse linkage. Put a small hole in it which made it spray out like a pressure washer. Fun to clean let me tell ya.

alright guys, well i have my sled torn down in the garage so just took a look, so far it looks to be good. With no warranty guess i'll just hope it stays that way..

Yeah... It happens out of no where. I checked mine a week before it broke and it looked fine then. If I were you I would get some larger zip ties to swing around the radiator just incase it were to break.
