On my 07 RTX I seem to only be getting about 10-10.2 Rpm on the top end. I am not much of a clutch guy so I am wondering what I need to do to get into the 10.6-10.8 range. Machine has about 2000 miles, belt is brand new and height in the secondary checks out according to the specs in the manual.
Thanks.

Put in a new primary spring, clean both clutches and make sure everything is in spec. Primary spring sacks out quick.

The 4 stroke primary springs last forever. clean your clutches as you should easily be hitting peak rpm,s.

Sorry Turk, gotta disagree with you on this one. My spring compression tester proves otherwise. After a few thousand miles the primary springs are down on both preload and full shift tension. The long springs last longer than the old style short springs but still fade over time. Just a few kg's of fade will affect performance all the way through the shift. This is a easy test. On a new sled, bring up the rpm very slow and take note of the engagement rpm. Then try a sled with a few thousand miles. ATV's with CVT's are really bad for spring fade also. (especially Polaris) I know guys that take the springs out during the off season just to keep the tension off. Personally I like to a new primary spring each season. Yamaha springs do last longer than other OEM"s and most after market springs. Regular clutch maintenance is just as important as engine and chassis maintenance.

You can also wrap the secondary spring to 70-80 degrees from the stock 60. You will gain RPM and backshift quicker.

Sounds good guys. Will clean ASAP and try the springs.

Turk, are you the same Turk that was on the old Trailconditions website about ten years ago?

Whoa pulled this one out of the dustbin didn't we. LOL

Seems better this year after good cleaning new primary spring and new lower drive bearing. Saw 10.8 initial but have not been able to do some long river pulls to see where rpm's are settling at. Temps have been -20 to -40 for almost three weeks now and I have been climbing the walls!! :o|

Will post up results when it warms up. ;)!
