I bought a new Apex LTX GT last season and gave up my Ski-Doo allegiance because I thought Yamaha finally got it right. I love the sled BUT
1) overheats in hard snow conditions...oh come on :o|
2) sliders wear out like crazy

so I have read that the 09's come with a rear cooler...interesting..WHAT ABOUT US 08'S!!
Yamaha put in the cooler because it is needed so...WHAT ABOUT US 08'S!!
I heard the wheels are bigger in 09!!!
Come on Yamaha..how about an update kit and labour concession???
Anyone behind me on this...should we petition Yamaha??

It all depends on snow conditions you ride in...on my '05 & '08 rear heat exchange where the 1 st thing to go on and I never overheated, but again my buddy didn't install any on his and he never overheated once!!! but we always ride in good snow conditions, OK the odd lake or icy road sides and either ever overheated...

The other thing we both did is DILUTED our coolant, drain out more or less 2 litre and replace it with distiled water and this will also improve big time your cooling issue...

For your slide/hyfax wear issue again SNOW CONDITIONS play a BIG roll...this winter past '07/'08 we got over 11' feet and I've put on 6500kms on my '08 APEX LTX and probably still good for a 4 to 5000kms pending snow conditions! and winter '06/'07 I could barely get 4000 kms on a set, we got more ICE & RAIN than snow, it seems to vary from sled to sled just do a search on this site and you'll have a TON of info...

Now for a petition I don't think it would be fair to YAM 'cause their so many factors that come in to play for a SNOWMOBILE that is so dependant on weather conditions, riding styles... their just trying to improve with INFO we consumers feed back to our dealers...I'd try to work out things with your DEALER, I in the past have had good success...your DEALER is your "PETITON" and if your current dealer won't do sqwat for you go to 1 that will! ;)!

Thanks for the insights. I understand what you are saying BUT, the conditions I rode in were hardpack for a couple of weeks and there was snowdust coming out the back, and not one of the other brands coolant light came on...just me. My dealer said he puts in diluted coolant already. Unless there is alot of snow, the heat exchangers under the floorboards get no snow. In my group my sliders went way before all the other brands. Looks like I will put on scratchers on the skis.....shouldn't have to though.
If it wasn't a problem, then Yamaha would not have put on rear coolers as stock.

Hey my truck I bought doesn't have all the new features the new ones today have maybe I should complain to get all the updates for low cost and free to install too. :drink: :drink:

???Throttlejockey..shouldn't my sled hold it's temp as well in the same snow conditions as every other brand? This is just a basic performance issue, not bells and whistles. There are lots of people having this issue, so I think it should be voiced. Obviously I am talking to my dealer and I want to get a sense of this problem with others.

The overheating issue has been discussed many times on this site. If you search Overheating Apex/Attak, you'll find more than you will have time to read. What you will find is that the concenus (sp) is to dilute the Antifreeze to a level that will fit your temps. Your Dealer telling you he did over the phone would not be enough to convince me. I would check it personally. Any sled, I've even read about the new XP's doing it over heat on hardpack/icey conditions. It's simple no snow getting to the heat exchanger = no cooling. The fan on the radiator is good for short stints but I think it's purpose is more to aid ini a consistant temp in good conditions. If you are not studded you'll have even more issues with the cooling as there's nothing to break up the hardpack. If you don't run studs and you often find yourself ridding in hard pack or icey conditions then I would recomend getting a rear exchanger. Again do asearch as there are some options, some expensive, some not.

The Hifax, again do a search, many new Yamaha guys are scared by the rate that the hifax initiall wear out. They seam to calm down once they reach a certain point. For whatever reason it seems most Yamahas do this. Whithin you search will be several setup options to help in the rapid wear that will fit your ridding style and needs.

As you've learned there are trade offs with everything. There isn't a perfect sled out there. I myself have had to look at the big picture and determine pros and cons on each brand/model. Ultimately for me the Nytro is the best fit. The reality of adding oil, vibration, smoke, resale, and longevity out weight the negative aspects.

the other brands run most of there coolers in the tunnel not under the footwells like yamaha does.. and therefore doesnt get as much snow..

Get some larger front wheels.. after changing out to the slydog 5.375 wheels i have quadrupled the life of the slidders..

Had 3200 miles on them last year and could have gone another 2000 miles easy..

Ah, now you are talking some sense, Taking it to the dealer is the best idea, since then any possible issues can be reported to Yamaha ;)! .
