What are people using for Crossover skis?

Slydog 8in just arrived. Mostly boondocking here though. We notice gas mileage goes up noticeable with wider skis since your floating and not plowing through the snow. Our last sleds had them also so I am a slydog return customer. We love off trail performance we get from these skis. Got both sets of skis on sale for black Friday. Yay

I have the Simmons Gen3. We don't do a lot of sidehilling/mountains in the northeast but we do a lot of off trail exploring. I like the flotation of the Gen3's while at the same time the deep keels for trail hookup.

They are a workout however.

i see you have been using 8"? how do you like that over 6" since that is what i use. i dont have any issues with 6" so i was just curious why you chose 8". especially if you are more off trail?

any aggressive ski/carbide setup will be a workout unless you have power steering. lol

I still have the stock mtx skis on the new viper and only had one good ride this year in the deep and I was not to impressed with the flotation of the oem mtx skis. That's why we went with another set of 8in slydog. vipers are not a lite sled so the more ski = more flotation and that means less plowing. It all depends on where you ride and preferences.

lol opps my bad, thought you were talking about carbides... yea i have the 7". i was considering the hellhounds for my viper but decided not to spend the extra money since i ve used the powderhounds already and liked them so i stayed with 7" again.

I have an old set of simmons I threw on mine last season. I am still working on the hard steering issue but with 32" of carbide I have less push. I bought directly from Simmons the mount for the Viper and they did not work (not sure if at the time they knew what a viper was) they may have sold me Yamaha saddles for an 03 Viper but I used the rubbers out of an old Polaris fusion I had laying around and they worked fine. (it was not my Fusion)!!!! I was riding RX's then.

The new Gen3 Simmons I got have the saddle stamped AC-7000 and they were a tight fit, but were obviously the right ones. I think you are right about the old style being sent by them in error.

XTX guys don't forget about changing your front skid shock spring to get the right balance.
To each his own.. after riding this XTX on the trail, the last thing I want is a lighter front end. I'll be backing the front skid shock down (from stingrays 11 threads to maybe 7) and pulling the limiter down 1 more hole. If your not going to be riding it hard on the trail and plan to use it just to get to your play zone off trail, that might be an option, but I still believe by moving the front skid shock forward will add to trenching...

I see where you are coming from if the front skid shock spring was correct to start with, but the XTX has a weaker spring than the trail models. This is putting the weigh mostly on the skis and back shock, and when you hit it hard it has to lift the skis. Putting the stronger spring on mine actually reduced ski lift as now the skid can transfer and not lift the skis. But if you like the feel by all means run it as is, we all like different things.

Ran the stock skis for 400 miles last year. They are ok but could be better.
I have 3 different sets of skis to try on this sled so im kind of excited to get the season started and test skis.
I am starting this season with simmons flexi skis with 4 inch shaper bars inside and outside.
Once i get 4-500 miles on them i plan to swap over to skidoo pilot 6.9 with 6" shaper bars.
Another 4-500 and i will be swapping over to usi triple threats with 6inch shaper bars and stage 2 fin kit.
Between these 3 skis i should be able to get yhis thing carving up some trails!!
